Title: Biggie Hoffman
Post by: Three Arrows on December 18, 2016, 05:54:00 PM
I've been away from Trad Gang for some time. I was wondering what happened to Biggie Hoffman?  Biggie had a large presence in here. I did a member search and found his last post on December in 2013.  Coming back here, I see many new names and the absence of some old names.  It is like missing an old friend from hunting camp.  I just thought I'd ask.

Yep, he sure is missed, Skyler is another!
Many other active members that you don't see anymore

Welcome back Three Arrows.  I'm relatively new here, but I'm sure glad I found this place.  I visit this site multiple times a day.  It's a wealth of information with a ton of great people.

Biggie post over at the PBS campfire some. In fact a post as recent as today about his PBS sponsor from back in the day.

Biggie sold all of his mounts and memorable items and I hear most of his bows.  Not sure he even hunts anymore....I miss him.

Skyler hunts with a compound now...as does his dad.

I miss Biggie as well...  He is the reason I am a PBS Regular member.

Ya I miss the big guy too, a very generous and great guy. Met him on a St Judes hog hunt.

Biggie is surely missed by many, but especially so during the "St. Jude's" auction. The big guy could get you fired up and opening your wallet for the kids of St.Jude, like no other. What a great way to be remembered.   :campfire:

Having Skylar and his dad missing from Tradgang is also big blow to the St Judes action.  They were very active and contributed a lot of items.
People and circumstances change, but life goes on.  Best regards to the Wilson's and Biggie.

I can remember shooting at a TBOF spring shoot at the Rocking Horse Ranch near Ocala Fla. sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. There was a guy in the group in front of my group who was keeping everyone in stiches telling stories and just busting on all involved.......it was Biggie Hoffman, I will never forget what a great day that was.........lol, I even shot pretty good. He was always just a couple of do-nuts from camp.

Ted! So many times people get lost in a changed handle!

You old punk, you!

It appears one of the groupies must have hung out and stayed around, lol...

Terry is right. Biggie has largely left the hunting scene and has disposed of much of his stuff. He has more or less retired and has downsized his house. Biggie lives here in the county not far from me, and I spoke to him several weeks ago. He is doing well, just slowing the pace a bit.

Wayne is a great guy and definitely missed. He brought many good laughs to this place.

Although Wayne has cut back on his fanatical bowhunting he's not completely out of it. In fact, he's booked to do my whitetail bootcamp in March. You won't find a better guy in the world to share a camp with if you should ever get the chance. He's a LOT smarter than he looks! BW

Kinda unnerving when guys who were passionate about bowhunting like Biggie and The Ferret (aka Mickey Lotz) slow down significantly or even stop bowhunting.  I don't get it, although in Mickey's case he has replaced one passion with others (being a trophy husband, babysitting his grandson and motorcycle riding nearly every day all over the place).  I guess I hear my biological clock ticking louder and louder, because I want to bowhunt MORE, not less, before I check out for good.

As we age, we can experience changes that are gradual and at times nearly imperceptible. I have found that in my own case there is as much interest and love for archery as ever, just don't have the desire as much to kill things. And it really doesn't bother me at all. We all experience these life changes differently and that's why it's hard for some to understand what others are feeling.

I know how that is. I love bowhunting and I love the kill part of it as well but I find as I get older I don't do as many big hunts anymore. I used to do several a year. I would rather just hunt whitetails and flyfish around my cabin in the mountain.

I bet he's getting a kick out of reading all this.  I got to chat with Biggie by the fire pit and a coffee pot several weeks ago.  He might not get after it like he used to but he still loves to talk about this stuff.  Was an hour I'll file away into my own highlight reel of life.

I know in my own case,... I used to hunt nearly every day of the season ,...make several out of state trips a year and was totally eat up with bowhunting. Now at 58 years old, with two grand children , the passion is still there but the priority has changed.I look back at the thousands of hours spent up a tree or in a blind and the memories are grand.....but I also feel the cold more, seem to be a lot stiffer now, and really prefer a recliner to a climber...

I keep waiting for the April fools joke announcement...surely you guys aren't talking about me 8-)

I'm humbled by the thoughts and statements here...really. To be thought of like this by people who embody the traditional way of LIFE means a lot to me.

I have slowed down somewhat. For you guys who say grandchildren will not change your life I say BlahahHHhaahhahHhahhahh!!!!!   you'll see.

Jill and I have downsized preparing for retirement. In fact, she already has! Our new house is half the size of the old one which was a good move. You know, half the taxes, half the insurance, half the light bill ...and I did sell 37 of my mounts because there just wasn't any room for them but guys, let me tell you something...DON'T DO THAT! I regret it everyday...If I could get them all back right now, I'd build a house just to put them in and work a few more years to pay for it!

Anyways.....MERRY CHRISTMAS to each of you and your families...your kind words here have made MINE extra special this year already.

Great to hear from you Biggie!  Glad all is well on your end and that you're preparing for retirement.  I know what you mean about grandchildren; mine definitely changed my life, and I love it!  Merry Christmas and have a safe and joyous holiday!  Keith

I've been checking this thread every day hoping you'd personally give us news.

And yes, you're even missed way up in Northern Quebec!

I'm one of those guys you chastised once for shooting a swimming duck with a longbow... but like I said before, he was swimming fast, and there were waves, LOL!

And to further my defence, let me add, that my wife and I were in isolated bush country on a moose hunt and really in need of some fresh meat... am I forgiven? LOL!

Sincere wishes to you and your family for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I highly recommend retirement.  Been retired for several years now myself.  Unfortunately, I find I don't have any more time to hunt now than when I was working, well, maybe a little.

Good to hear from you Biggie.  Check in a little more often if you can. Merry Christmas.   :clapper:

Biggie Hoffman is one the best bowhunting partners a man could have, we've traveled the world together with this passion. ( an elf told me this thread was up). He's not the only one with grandchildren and he's right-priorities change. Except with the Wensel's-lol. Still enjoying time in the woods, just not as often. BUT, I still have my mounts, the ex didn't get those, but almost!

Merry Christmas to all!

Good to hear from "Biggie". Always looked forward to his post on TG. His story about the moose he killed in Maine, and how he got it out, is still embedded in my brain. Would love to share a campfire with him some day.   :campfire:
