Been about 6 years since shooting a recurve due to shoulder injury. In the past shot a Schafer Silvertip about 50 lb @ 31". I no longer have that bow or the arrows. Thought I shot 0.300 spine 32" Beman ICS arrows standard insert 175 grain tips/broadheads.
I now have a Tall Tines, 62" (14" riser/long limbs), 51lb @ 31", off the shelf, velcro side plate. Shooting 32" Beman ICS Classic arrows (had them for a Mohawk longbow) 100 grain insert, 125 grain tip, 3 5" feathers. Shooting spot on bare shaft and fletched out to 20 yards. I thought these would be weak?
I need new arrows. This will be primarily for hunting with limited 3D. Want to shoot a 32" Gold Tip/3 Rivers Trad only 175 grain point/broadhead. Arrow chart says should be shooting 0.300's with standard insert, 3 Rivers calculator says 0.340 standard insert and 145 grain point, 3 Rivers tech recommended 0.400 standard insert 175 grain point??????? Being an engineer this is a pretty wide range of spine and doesn't make sense. From my compound I'm use to shooting 0.300 spine arrows at my draw.

You don't say what spine your Beman ICS classics are that shoot well for you, but if they do, go with the same spine on your replacements if the replacements are the same diameter and about the same weight..
.300s are likely too stiff. If you're drawing close to 31 inches, then the .340s will probably be optimal, but I agree that the .400s would also work with less weight up front. If, in fact, your draw is closer to 28 inches, and you just like long arrows, then the .400s would be plenty.
You can probably make any of these carbon spines fly well by adjusting point weight and length (though if you have a 31-inch draw, you don't have the option of adjusting shaft length) and/or the bow side plate thickness.
A compound will shoot anything as long as its overs pined because it's centershot, i.e., cut past center so the arrow can be lined up to bisect the string, and it's shot with a trigger, which just about eliminates fishtailing at the release.

Sorry 0.340 spine 100 grain inserts, 125 grain points is what is currently shooting good. I know if it isn't broke don't fix it! Just figured that the 0.340 with 100 grain inserts would make it weak.

If I were you I would get a Gold Tip test kit from 3 Rivers. $26.99 buys you 1 shaft each of all 4 spines with nocks and inserts. I never had a test kit, but I have shafts in all spines and various lengths that I use all the time for new bows, changes in my form, etc. I'll bet I've used some of my bare shafts hundreds of times to answer questions like you're asking.

Yep 31" from nock groove to front of riser. This bow is so smooth. I'm really liking the shorter riser and longer limbs. I always went went with a 64" bow with 18" or 19" risers. I should get heavier limbs but with the bad shoulders I'm not risking it!!!!
Being an engineer I was a bit surprised with the 3 Rivers arrow calculator showing my current set up being so under spined!

McDave good advice. In my prior 100% Trad days I had all kinds of arrows to test. Guess I'll have to restock. All I have is arrows for my compound!!!! Going back to 100% Trad so need a restock.

Stu Miller never claimed that his calculator is the final authority on dynamic spine...it is a starting point...new users often miss the personal form adjustment factor at the end of the calculations as well

My cals came out to -12 form adjustment!!! Usually I'm pretty close to arrow spine programs. Kinda surprised me.
Just looking for backup that I'm not way out of wack!!!!!!

You just stated that the arrows you have on hand are spot on both bare shafted and fletched out to 20 yards. I won't says its not possible to get any better than that, but there sure isn't any need to. If they are spot on, its all up to you, so just shoot and enjoy them.

Yep being an engineer makes me anal about spine and tech specs!!!! Drives my wife crazy.
I am going to keep shooting them and stop over analyzing!!!!! They are shooting good!!!!!

You seem to be on the border line between 300 and 340 spine. If the 340 spine is flying well for you, don't look back. 300 should work with a little juggling of point weight. The only think we don't know for sure is the bow center line measurement. Again if the 340 works, I would not change. With 300 you may have to go with a heavier point weight than you want. With only 1" shorter I used 400's Hope this helps. Ken

I am sticking with original advise if the 340 works stick with it. 1/8 past center you can go stiffer but no need to try it. Ken

Just ordered some Blem 0.340 Gold Tips from Big Jim and some 145 and 175 points plus some 50 and 100 grain inserts. I'm going to dial it in....lol!
