Title: The forgotten Grizzly broadhead
Post by: Biathlonman on April 11, 2017, 09:08:00 AM
As many of you know I've spend the last couple of months obsessing over gear in preperation for an upcoming bear hunt.  Shooting and tuning nearly daily for months I feel like I've finally found the perfect arrow for me.  I did a lot of shooting with broadheads yesterday into a rock filled dirt hill.  Time and time again I was impressed with the flight and toughness of my 200 grain Grizzly Instinct 3 blade broadhead.  This morning as I was bringing them all back to hair popping sharp with a cheap file and discarded cardboard box I got to wondering why more folks aren't talking about these broadheads?  Perfect flight, easy to sharpen, crazy tough. As I surveyed my bow and quiver full of arrows I couldn't think of an animal I wouldn't tackle with these broadheads. With the new double bevel Bruin hitting the market and the old grizzly and instinct doing what they do so well maybe it's time we take another look at what Grizzly broadheads have to offer.

In the interest of full disclosure I'm a big fan of Bill and Tracy Dunn.  I'm also a "3 blade guy" as I've never once seen a 3 blade head fail to adequately penetrate.

I like the simplicity of that broadhead.  Wish you the best of luck on the upcoming bearhunt!

The Instinct sure has not been forgotten by me.  They fill my quiver for everything from turkeys to elk.  I love them!

I have carried grizzlies since the good Dr's. first report came out. Not forgotten by me. I will also add that I have not shot a 3 blade head since then, but I wouldn't be against trying a grizzly three blade.

I love the Instinct. Killed some deer, and lots of jack rabbits with them. They mount easy, and are easy to sharpen.

For sure they are some very dependable bhs like all the others that carry the Grizzly name. Nowadays I am more a single bevel fan but I bet you can kill every game with those

I used one on a turkey a couple weeks ago. He didn't make very far.

Kip, worlds different!  Instincts are a "Mercedes" to the bodkin "pinto".

I'd take the instincts after elk or moose with my low #50 bows with zero hesitation.

I certainly haven't forgotten about Grizzly broadheads. My broadheads of choice. Really don't think you could go wrong with any one of them.  Bill Dunn certainly has done one heck of  a job with the Grizzly line.    :notworthy:    :notworthy:

I'm with Jack.  I've been shooting Grizzly BHs since I first read Ashbys research.  I haven't tried the Instincts but everything I have shot since returning to trad in 2009 have been with the single bevel Kodiak.  Moose, Elk, Deer, Hogs, Javelina have all succumbed to the effectiveness of that broadhead.  My only "failure to find" was a turkey and that was my fault not the broadheads.

Good post about a very good broadhead.

I like the 3-blade Griz. I have a few of them and have yet to cook up an arrow for them, but doing so is on the agenda. I'll be hunting spring bears this year with 3-blade heads, and I have complete confidence in them getting the job done.

I have been using grizzlys since the early 90's.  They can't be beat for the price (or much higher price) in my opinion.  The current manufacture is way better than the originals.  I haven't tried the instincts yet but I want to.

The snuffer, the woodsman, and now the grizzly instinct, all have been tested and are truly awesome heads. Having said that, after 40 years of hunting, my quiver is carrying the instincts. I think these 3 blade heads are the king of the mountain.

Not forgotten by me, the Instincts are great heads and are my go to heads for anything.

They work real good on Hogs too..
