Please do not ask questions in this thread - if they are about trad archery/bowhunting, ask them in the appropriate forum - if they are of another nature, send an email or pm to an admin or mod. thank you.
(Please note: "Trad Archery Newbies" article now found HERE (http://www.tradgang.com/docs/trad.html) )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lately, with the wave of new people coming to Trad Gang, I feel there needs to be a review of what Trad Gang is about.........
No selling on any forum on Tradgang unless you are a Sponsor or a Contrubuting Member. We have a special classifieds section for Sponsors and Contributing Members.
Off topic threads can be one of a kind, or fit into a category. Here's a list of categories that are off topic for Trad Gang that have been problematic for a few months now......
No daily news or weather reports. This is NOT a news forum. Its a Bowhunting Forum.
E-B-A-Y/Auction sites/Facebook/Blogs/Sales alerts from non Trad Companies or non Sponsor companies.
No target/Olympic/flight shooting/field archery topics cept 3-D
NO Solicitations/Raffles/Auctions.
No Religious posts.
No Political posts.
No Daily Weather reports.
No non bowhunting related pics.
No links to other message boards.(this includes my space, facebook, and blogs)
No 'hunting contests' PERIOD.
No links to non-Sponsor sites
No canned hunt topics, plugs for or advertising period.
No Personal Contact threads.(use search feature and email)
No Scam alerts.
No Throwing Hawks, Throwing knives, non hunting knives, atlatls/spears, etc.
No Bloggs/Myspace/Facebook/ and YouTube non-bowhunting/YouTube personal Channels are all off topic. (direct links to a YouTube video are fine as long as they are trad bowhunting related)
No non Bowhunting TV/Movie threads.
No non Trad Bowhunting equipment (compounds, crossbows, mech heads, lazer sites, guns, etc...or even pics)
No fishing threads.
No pics of road kills, or any other weapon kills, or any type of kills that are not done so with trad bows.
No animals killing animals clips, or any other non hunting clips.
We do ONE charity a year and that's St Jude Children's Hospital. And we allow Compton and PBS to announce their raffles. This is all we do, so please do not post any type of charity/fund raiser of any kind.
Again, those categories above are off topic, and will always be off topic unless we approve a specific thread for a needy reason. Please help us help you by keeping the site on topic...Trad Bowhunting.
Trad Gang is a special place, and to keep it a special place it takes work from everyone, including the members. Try and understand that when your post is pulled, it is NOT personal, we are only trying to be consistent and fair as we can for the site's sake. No need to get bent out of shape, no need to go bizerk or explode.
Think you are alone?....Think we play favorites?..here's a few folks that have had their posts edited or pulled....
Ron LaClair, Dean Torges, Gene Wensel, Barry Wensel, Biggie Hoffman, Charlie Lamb, and Don Thomas, Rob DiStefano, Ray Hammond just to name a few....So, if you've had a post removed or edited, your in good company.
I've pulled my own post as well as had mods pull mine....so don't take it personal. We are just striving to keep the site on course and as established on day one.
Thanks for your consideration.
Well done and said :thumbsup:
Great outline Rob.Everyone should pay extra attention to your first sentence under the bow. Stay
within your capabilities of draw weight and you will
learn to enjoy this sport a lot quicker with far less problems.
This should be pasted above. Good info Rob.
-
Too good to be on page 2 ...
-
Of all archery tackle, the arrow is absolutely most important.
Great post, Rob! and thanks for your statement on arrows. I absolutely agree. The arrow is the missle which spans the distance from bow to target and delivers the broadhead to the heart. I have to say tho, I prefer wood shafted arrows with feathers attached with glue. :D
-
Great info Rob, thanks for taking the time to put this information in writing.
-
Great post Rob. I think its Sticky worthy.
-
Well said Rob..Would it be possable to keep this at the top for a while?
-
This should be pinned.Good post Rob.
-
the benefits of fletching tape feathers far outweighs fully glued on feathers in terms of time and durability,
Wow, guess I'm going to have to try the tape.
Nice job by the way, kind of a "Readers Digest" of every book written on the subject.
-
Nicely done - that should help lots of folks and save lots of time.
:thumbsup:
Thanks for the post, I'am a newbie and unsure as were to ask a question.If I have a arrow question where should I ask it? Thanks
Rob..thanks for the post. I have been a member for some time and have enjoyed reading the good info that has been shared on this site. I enjoy archery very much and just can't seem to get enough. I like to fletch my on arrows and have allways used glue but after reading Your post I will give tape a try as I am allways looking for a better way to do anything. Larry
this is a work in progress, and i just added my thoughts on bow length and t/d bows.
-
thanks Rob, had to learn that stuff on my own, and crippled one deer because of insuficient tackle. hope this will help prevent this from happening to other begining bowhunters.
Thanks for reminding the "newbies"...even the old ones...that we need to follow the rules to keep this the great site that it is. You are the man, Rob! :notworthy:
-
Makes sense. I'll make sure to follow.
-
as a new guy i thank you for the help this is a great site and i wouldnt want to anger the bow gods for any reason thank you
:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
I have been a member for a long time but seldom post. This was a good refresher - rules are a good thing!
This site has helped me a great deal through the years and I plan to get a little more involved.
JC
-
Sounds alright with me. Let me know if Im doing any newby mistakes.
-
I like having things spelled out like that...thanks
-
Sorry could not figure out how to delete my post.
-
Most popular trad shooter today. Who is it? There is not many on the boob tube. But there is a few. I might be slanted because I am on their pro staff but you have to Admit, Fred Eichler is right up there. He is a great shot and if you watch Easton bowhunting he has taken some nice animals and(from what I have heard) runs a great hunting camp in Colorado.....who out there watches his show.
-
I am not endorsing him in any shape form or way. I am just comenting on what I have seen. One guy I know went out there and was happy.
Byron Furgeson, is one heck of a trick shooter. Any one out htere watch impossible shots? Some of the things he does is incredible. Who else out there impresses you with their instinctive shooting?
-
I haven't posted enough to get anything pulled yet but its nice to know if it happens I'm in good company. Helps when ya post the rules right up front like that, thanks.
-
rob thanks for the list, being fairly new i do beleieve we should have boundaries, you know how different personalities can be. i love joking around with my hunting buddies, and would never want to offend anyone. ther's one thing i have noticed, there are a couple of people that talk down to others, and make peronal insults, that bothers me. there's that old saying there is no dumb question. for 99.9 pecent, they are great people that are very happy to help. thanks again :clapper:
-
As a new member to Trad Gang, I'd like to take a moment and say thank you for this...it clarified quite a lot.
-
My bad, Sorry. I won't be a naughty religious guy anymore.
-
I am new here, but what impressed me were your guide lines you have established. Outstanding. :thumbsup:
-
Clarity Clarity Clarity and Crystal clear.
Forgetting the basics will lead down the errant path and greatly diminish the value of this noble site.
Thank you for the reminder, since I too am not immune from getting a way from the basics.
Thank you moderators!!!!!!!!!
-
Great job, as a new member I appreciate the clarification. As an archer of the old persuasion. I can confirm we all need guidance.
Thanks Don
-
Understood.Thanks for the Info.I'm new to the site and new to traditional archery.I've hunted with compounds for 12 years now,but getting tired of all the new gadgets.Getting back to the basics
-
Thanks for the Post Rob. Although I have been a member for 3 years now, I haven't had a lot to say but I enjoy the Trad Gang site. I am retired now and will become more involved. Since I was a little boy archery has always been one of my hobbies whether hunting or just target shooting or roving. It is good to know the rules and have a level playing field with respect, while discussing varied topics and concerns and sharing expertise, experience and personal opinions. Thanks again!
-
Big job, great site and have learned alot in three mon.. Thanks everyone
-
good post rob,i wouldnt want this site to be any other way..i only wish i found and joined it sooner...i started out with traditional equipment,went trough the wheelbow thing...and i am happy to be back with the trad bows again..after many tries i finally have made my first ash selfbow...thank you for this great site,i can,t wait to start my next one,with all the knowledge from the members here,it will be much more enjoyable....john
-
Thank you for providing such a priceless resource, I do not have a mentor so I will be learning on my own! Life is GOOD!♠
-
On second thought could the Trad Gang be my mentor?
-
Fair policy. This is a very interesting deal. Thanks for taking the time to do it.....
-
Thanks Rob for the outline, new to this forum, excited to interact with fellow bowhunters though!
-
Excellent compacted overview, good info !!
Thanks for your efforts.
-
And how!
I am an old new member or new old member. Let me explain. I registered here back in 2006 and promptly forgot all about it and just reregistered (THEN, saw the big red notice at the forum home page and got a polite email pointing out my errant ways from Rob, which made me think my alzheimers is finally kicking in) and the reason I registered and then never came back is because of the tendonitis I've inflicted on my elbows and shoulders every year since 97 or so because the beautiful Bob Lee Signature TD I bought from Jay St. Charles was too heavy and I couldn't bear to part with it. There wasn't this very informative piece around when I needed it (even though I probably would have missed it just like the reregistration warning) so every year now my enthusiasm for traditional archery has been frozen by pain because I bought a bow which I thought I could "grow into" because my compound was so much heavier. A bad case of "it couldn't happen to me." And... to put it one way, I am a very persistent fellow so I am very capable of inflicting a great deal of damage to myself in pursuit of my love, which is bowhunting, so every year, back to the wheels and cams I've limped.
Then JJ at Bob Lee suggested reducing my limbs, which I did in March and it is a miracle! And I am juiced up and buying new arrows and barred feathers and a new quiver and lifting weights and ... finding my way back to Trad Gang, which is where I finally read Rob's advice to newbies this time before crippling myself. The bow is still a bit too heavy, but because of Rob's article I have ordered my fletching tape AND I am buying a training bow, which I think is going to be the 40 lb. Samick Sage TD because it is very affordable and the shelf and brace is almost identical to my Bob Lee even though the Sage is not a show bow by any means and new limbs only cost $70 so I stand a better than even chance of enticing my wife out into the field with me with 30 lb. limbs.
Thank you, Rob.
So. Read the instructions, THEN assemble the barbecue, not the other way around.
OK. Got it.
-
As the new guy on the block, this is very helpful.
Appreciate the effort
-
Good deal.
-
Very concise and to the point. As a long time target archer (bow hunting banned in my native country) I'm looking to diversify and this site and another was recommended by the trad archers in our club.
-
I have been involved in Traditional Archery all my life... But I am a newbie to this site. I apologize for posting about the Arizona wildfire. I thought it was very relevant as this particular area is what most of us consider the most prime bowhunting territory in our state and will affect a large percentage of the bowhunters plans for this season.
I have learned my lesson... And I am sorry...
No problem Cambow...we have to watch the topics close...because the site can get away from it intended purpose in a hurry if we don't.
i have been a member since 2004. although i don't post as much or as often as some, believe me when i say, i am here, reading and learning. i love this place. i have a question regarding off topic posts. i know it's impossible for you guys to cover everything all the time. if there is a post that has nothing to do with trad or trad hunting. should members report the post, or ignore it? i'm not wanting to cause a problem. i just want to know if it would help, or hurt? don
yes, please do report any posts that you think are off topic. trad gang is quite wide and deep, there is no way admin and the mods could review every post. we greatly appreciate your help!
-
thank you rob, after i asked the question, it dawned on me that you put the "report post" at the bottom of every page for that very reason. sometimes the answer is right in front of you. don
-
Thanks Rob for putting this information up. It is very helpful to those of us that have only ben on here a year or so.
-
whats a canned hunt?
-
I appreciate the time and the effort you put to keep this site in good standards.I am new here and this post was usefull as a guideline.
-
Hello Rob. I'm new here and just read your post. It sounds like you would even pull or edit a post from Howard Hill if he were alive today and did a boo boo post. That's the type of policing that's required to keep anything thing ship shape, whether it were a forum or the kitchen. Cool, so that explains the organized nature of the site.
-
I am new to this site. I was referred over by a good friend. This is a fantastic site, with good, honest people. Thanks for keeping it straight and on topic.
-
Rob:
Thanks for this post as I am a newbie, this helps me in getting to know what Trad Gang is all about.
Hi, I am at a dilemma. I received the, "Masters of the BareBow" DVD set, from being on the list long ago. I can't remember how long ago that was. However I am not able to find where the original posting was, and the name provided (Elk8) is supposed to be next. (I tried the search and it didn't work.) This name was provided by the member that sent me the video's. Also maybe it's just my computer but I am not able search back past page 14 on POW WOW.
-
No name with elk8....any other clues? Name of title?...specific different word or words in title...like 'pass around'?
-
Terry I received the video's from rezeen6.5 24804. He passed the name mentioned to me but hasn't gotten back. Should I go ahead and post a general question (which topic catagory?) for anyone that knows when the list was generated and go from there?
-
I find great value in learning on the forum.
Thank you.
-
This is my first post as I am a "Newbie" and I have found this Thread to be quite informative. Thanks for the guidelines..
-
New guy question. What does it mean when members post TTT in the classifieds? Thanks!
-
I'm new too but I know this one (yaay I'm useful!). Ttt means "to the top". It is just to bring the thread back to the top of the list.
-
please do not ask questions in this thread - if they are about trad archery/bowhunting, ask them in the appropriate forum - if they are of another nature, send an email or pm to an admin or mod. thank you.
this thread is now closed.
