Title: Whistle while you hunt
Post by: Legolas on November 05, 2007, 02:27:00 PM
Bagged an 8 pt today with my 66 inch 57# 7 Lakes longbow, a 3 Rivers prefinished cedar with a WW on the business end.
I saw 6 or more bucks chasing doe and not getting any interest out of them,(reminds me of High School)and had 3 deer go directly under my stand and brush the tree I was in and then exit straight away and not give me a shot. Later a big boy did the same and at 15 yards on the far side I whistled softly. He stopped and turned to see what was making the noise.Big mistake.

I shot out of a treesuit and this is the first  deer I have killed out of it and that makes me smile cause I like it.

Guys when I checked in at the local gun store where they tagged deer they went ape sh-t when they found out I got it with a longbow. I got some real big smiles and congradulations. That was nice to see that they appreciate the extra effort we put in.

They took a picture at the check in and it was in a parking lot hanging off the trailer. It does not give this glorious animal his due so I do not want to post it.

But I got to tell you, I trailed it and just wanted to get the direction he was goin after I lost sight of him. I looked ahead and someone had laid out this blaze orange flag over a raised area of ground then I realized it was the frigin deer! He like spued like a whale out the entry hole. And I found what looked like long tenderloins 15 inches long and they turned out to be congealed blood jello-like he coughed up. Weird,I never seen that before.

It was a Wensel.

I might add that as I was seeing so many bucks I tried rattling. I watched a buck pay no never mind to it and not even react. My conclusion was  hot chicks trumps being big man on campus.

Where you hunting at?  My dad and I are probably going to Vinton County next week, we're about 30 minutes from Athens.

All my hunting is done just outside the city limits, but I usually wait for deer to get out of my driveway which is in the city to go hunting. We have 16 treestands less than a mile from my favorite restaruant! Love it.
