What do you groundhunters sit on? I started groundhunting this year and have been sitting on the ground. Two problems, it isn't real comfortable and I need to move alot to get into position to shoot. I need something small and lightweight as this is the reason I took to the ground. I like to hunt deep in the woods when possible and the treestand is cumbersome to carry for that distance. What do you think of the Nif-T-Seat?
-
The Nif-T-Seat is the best invention for ground hunting that has ever come along. I love it!
-
I mostly use a Dean Torges seat.
http://www.bowyersedge.com/treeseat.html
-
I have a 7 gallon bucket with a swivel seat on it, but that's in a natural ground blind.
-
One of my best buddies built me a great seat that will backpack flat, is light, leans against a tree, or stands by itself in brush or blowdown, is comfortable, and has a full backrest.
I'm gonna put a pic on here next Monday of it, and we are gonna be a sponsor on the site and start doing these for ground hunters/turkey hunters.
Pretty cool deal..will advise Monday.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing this Ray, I use the Nif-T-Seat now but was just beginning to look for something with a backrest......
David
-
Hot seats work pretty good too if you need to be mobile.
-
Heres mine that has evolved over the years from an Alaskan back frame to a 2 legged seat that can lean or stand erect.Right height to shoot recurve and tip does hit the ground..pole in back is for picture....PM me if anyone needs dimensions....If this seat could TALK

-
Check with Dennis, a sponser here, at Git-er-done Archery. He has a cool seat.
-
Looking forward to hearing more about this seat, Ray!
-
Ray,
Looking forward to seeing that idea.
I like the Torges seat as well - as the tree makes a good backrest.

I have a seat like this. It is a folding stool type deal with a folding backrest. I attached backpack straps. The pocket underneath the seat holds as much stuff as a daypack so I dont have to carry both. I use this when I wear my ghillie suit or when I use either pop-up or natural material ground blinds. If I need to move I gather up, fold it, put it on like a day pack and head out. It is easy to wear and doesn't interfere if i want to still hunt to my next spot. It works VERY well and was less than 20 bucks. I also added a few narrow buckle straps to carry a coat or jacket. Sometimes, I even strap my small pop-up blind on it, and it functions like a small pack frame. I will take a picture tonight and try and post it tomorrow if ya like.

I have been using a Hunter Specialties tripod chair. It has a small backrest and it is really light.
-
I bought a Double Blind a few years ago with their 3 legged seat. It works great in the blind but also when I want to ground hunt. Has a full back rest and works really well.
-
I use a small folding "camp" seat. It folds flat, and has a canvas sling type seat. It is very light fits in my pack easily. will even fit in the cargo pocket of my B.D.U.s. This type of seat does not have a backrest, and big guys might not be too comfortable with it. I usually lean back against a large tree or brushpile and am quite comfortable.
-
when and if i come over again i will be using a seat for sure as when i sat on the ground i got chiggers and we dont want to go there. :biglaugh: :jumper: (http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh305/jeffburg/CIMG2015.jpg)
-
Chiggers are the devil...
-
I shiver when I hear the word chiggers....they are 100 times worse than skeeteres. At least skeeter bites stop itching after a couple hours.
-
Nif-t-seat for me.
-
Thanks for all the comments guys. I really look forward to seeing your seat Ray. I want something that is light, packable, and quick and quiet to set up/takedown. I was about to order a Niff-T-Seat, but I'll wait to see what Mr. Hammond has up his sleave. Thanks again and keep em coming!
Mike
-
Torges whitetail seat I made. So easily carried and comfortable. I frequently practice from it also. Costs little to make. I used a sewup bicycle tire for the treeside edge. If any of you know what a sewup is I will be impressed.

I build a small T seat made of a 2x4 about 2ft high, and a 2x8 board cut to about 14 inches long. Screw the 2X8 to the top of the 2x4, and cut a v in the bottom of the 2x4 so it will push into the ground. Tie a rope on for sling to put over your shoulder to carry. I also put a cusion on it with a cover for comfort. Works anywhere you want to go, and cost about $10.
-
I've tryed just about every seat out there except the strap on the side of a tree type seat. Can't always find a tree in the brush I hunt in. Have not found the perfect seat most likely does not exist, all have there pros and cons. I use to use the Niff-T-Seat its small, light weight, quiet, can move/rotate quietly, some adjustablity. Can't sit it in for more than an hour or two then the legs start getting the shakes and I'm usually out hunting longer than that. The bucket seat is cheap somewhat quiet and you can get the rotating seats for it, a bit cumbersome in the brush and noisy if your not careful, can be unseady if the ground is uneven. The Double Bull seat the one I'm using this year, it is quiet easy to carry set up comfortable, can be a bit off balance on uneven ground, reasonabley ok to rotate some but not as good as the rotateing or niff t seat. All Terrain Seat expensive, the new ones seem to come with a pad a must on the hard plastic, rotates very well, adjustable legs nice, noisy to carry and set up. I'd use it more and used it all last year but I'm concerned with the noise factor. If I ever get around to making a polarfleece bag for it I'll start using it again.
The prefect seat would be very quiet to carry and set up, have adjustable legs, have a back rest, be able to rotate 360 degrees with no noise, hold 500lbs, be very comfortable on the butt and back, less than 5 lbs, $50 or less, something you could sit in all day and have no pain.
yea I'd better get my product line moving so I can make some money on this one....

There's a third and bigger problem. What you leave behind. (no pun intended) Your butt crack is the stankinest part of your body and every time you sit on the ground you're polluting the area with man smell for days.
If you want to hunt on the ground use a folding stool and carry it out with you. And IMO you'll be a lot better off if you avoid leaning against a tree. Your back ain't your butt and a tree trunk won't absorb and hold odor like the ground. But lean against a tree and you still leave your calling card at least long enough for the "nightime cruiser" to wander by in a few hours and smell it.
Don't dare think deer will ignore man smell left behind in the woods.
-
"There's a third and bigger problem. What you leave behind. (no pun intended) Your butt crack is the stankinest part of your body"
You musta talke to my wife, Plug...lol
-
mjh...I'll take 2 when you start production
-
I like the three legged chairs with a back - that are made for pop-up blinds.
One warning about any chair; and that is to put it on solid ground. I have been real comfortable in a ground blind and then realize the chair has sunk so far down; it made survival the issue over hunting :)
I have fallen over backwards; to the side. As the ground warms up; and the resulting thaw makes what I ~thought~ was solid ground wasn't- it makes wonderful memories.
Although my hunting buddies love to find me stuck in the mud; its only mildy amusing when your falling.... as a deer walks in range :(
-
I too use the 3 legged, with back rest, Double Bull stool, and I like it a lot. I use it in natural brush blinds and just can't do without a back rest. Quiet, easy takedown with strap to keep it closed, along with carrying strap.
Bill
-
Nif-t-seat. Great product. "Simplicity is the closest thing to perfection"
-
I just picked up a double bull chair, their new big one with an adjustable lumbar support. I had a cheap three legged stool and there is no comparison between the two. You need a stool that you can sit still in for hours to avoid being detected. This new double bull stool will fit the bill.
-
Sitting 60-90 minutes in one place is plenty long for the way I like to ground-hunt. I use the Niff-T-Seat when I hunt in the ponderosa pine forest and use the original Double-Bull 3-legged seat when I hunt in the desert. Both fit my needs very well. - John
-
My chair above for clarification is made out of 3/4 and 1/2 conduit. It's about 10 years old .A friend welded it up for me after I tweaked another friends( probablys Ray Hammond's friend too) design..The height is critical that your bow clears the ground. The great thing about a two legged seat is you can LEAN up away from the trunk of the tree when you need to shoot. If this doesn't make sense then it will when you draw back and your back is up against a tree and your drawing elbow hits the tree trunk 4" from anchor! I use the seat to haul decoys and blind fabric when walking. Is it strong ? I'm 250#.....
-
joebuck, does that seat fold up? cool design for sure.
-
ditto the Torges' seat. I made mine with a lot of rope and sit with a good sized tree behind me.
-
Mooseman, it does fold up....i sent the dimensions to Squirrelbait some time ago. I use this seat in my Double Bull or Ghillie suit or dove hunting..It's got a lot frequent flyer miles from AZ to Fl. I have a day pack I strap on the back that carrys my video camera, calls, and decoys.....It also has a coupling so you can fit a pole as shown for a third leg...I posted this seat a while back on a turkey hunting thread..some TGers PMed me to do a build along but I'm not a welder so I declined rightfullly so...I'll have it at Pittsburg,PA in March for a seminar. Plus for this style seat is that it doesn't feel like it's half way up your colon after 4 hours in a blind like the DB or or any circular supported seats...IMO
-
I wear a padded seat cushion on my belt, and I sit upon what ever the Great One provides. :archer:
-
I just purchased a stool from Dubble Bull, it's called The Magnum, they say that it is for bigger guys, but the chair is not that much bigger, it was easy to pack in, and it is comfortable, it has a second padded cloth adjustable lumbar, I sat in it today from 1:00 PM until 5:40 PM without any problems, and I've had back surgery three times, it is a great chair. I think I even took a five minute nap !
Just look it up on their web site, I think I paid $40 it is a little bit lower in height not much, but that's so it doesn't cut off circulation on your legs, really it's comfortable.

IN CAMO, OF COURSE!! :D
seriously, I have boulders, fallen logs, leafy grounds, a thermarest, and for those really akward, uncomfortable spots, I have a folding canvas chair with backrest from Gander Mt.
-
I just use the upper part of my lone wolf self climber. :)
-
I need one for the Big Guys. 6'3" 300# any Ideas......
-
Well, I used to use a folding tripod stool but apparently my big butt is mightier than the stool...
Now, I sometimes use Dean's seat (with my pad on it)
... but find that it hurts a bit. I think I need to make another with slightly deeper dimensions (I'm 6.4" and 12x12 just isn't making it for me).
Sometimes I use a folding lawn chair (no pic of that at this time) with some para-cord arm straps. It works fine, but if I plan to do any walking, I leave this one at home - to clunky.
Mostly I just sit on that pad on the ground. As to making too much noise getting into a shooting position - try shooting from the ground. Turns out I shoot about as well from my butt on the ground (sitting cross legged) as I do standing.
That may be some commentary on my standing shooting but shhhh.
:-)

It is (or was, anyway) a high-end bike tire/tube that gets glued to the rim and is best known for being very light and for 'rolling' of at the worst possible time. :-D
Sew-ups are the chiggers if the cycling world.
-
Botta bing botta boom You got it! I am impressed.
I had a few laying around and could not find a garden hose I wanted to cut up and these work better anyway.
The Torges seat just feels good.. It must be a fulcrum thing that is going on.I glued some closed cell foam on mine. No legs to sink into the ground.
Paul
-
Legolas - that's the best use of a sew-up I've ever heard. :-D
Oh - and please excuse my typo - I meant to say I was 6'4" and *not* 6.4". Quite a difference.
Heh.
-
The one I talked about " the magnum" if you break it double bull will fix it, or give you a new one if they can't, it's like seting in a La-Z-Boy compared to the other one.
Carl
-
I'm a torges seat guy as well. I make a load of them with the best quality scraps I can get and some good rope, give'm a few coats of poly and stash them in all my different spots year round. Then I just carry a pad in and out 'cause I don't seem to have enough natural padding when I sit. I got quite a few that have been out there for several years that are still going strong.
-
I got one of the three legged folding seats with the swivel feature. Haven't hunted with it yet, but it's easy to shoot from, and the swivel should make it easy and quiet keeping inline for a good shot. I also picked-up one of those thick seat cushions from Wally World that fits it perfect. It doesn't have a back rest though, so I'll find out this week when I start hunting with it if it's good for sitting very long.
-
For you Dean seat guys - what kind of rope do you use? I got the size his site recommends and it was even in a cool orange and black weave, but the stuff is so danged slick it *really* resists knots and it's kind of loud.
I know the cotton / hemp / etc ropes won't last as long, but I'm wondering if they wouldn't work better anyway.
-
I use the torges seat and I like to use this rope I had made out of Spectra. It is only about 5/16" dia. but it is tested to 1500lbs. breaking strength.
-
I tried using some rope that I had in the shed. I believe it was braided nylon. The problem was that it stretched too much. After about 2 minutes sitting on the seat, it would fall out from under me.
I ended up getting some braided polypropylene like Dean recommends.
-
After trying several different ones, I ended up using 3/8" braid poly from Lowes..it's blue / white stripe and costs about $0.32 per ft...I use 10 ft (the knots will shorten the length). I tie a bunch of knots in it about 3-4 inches apart and after the knots tighten up the rope doesn't stretch.
Really like using this seat but waiting to see what Ray's going to show us.
-
I use 5/8" poly
-
GingivitisKahn, I like to use either 3/8 or 5/8 poly rope. It's real cheap at home depot and last forever. I prefer to use a sorta hitch to adjust and secure the seat instead of all those knots. Here's a few pics to explain how I do it.
first a view from the top:

hope that helped.
-
Deadsmple - actually it does help. That rope I bought looks cool(ish) but it has the consistency of braided pvc pipe. Whereas your rope looks more like... rope.
Try try again. :-D
Thanks!
-
The Torges seat and a three legged stool from Duluth Trading Co. It is light, adjustable, comfortable (even thought there is no backrest) and it is very strong. The cheap ones break too easy especially in soft dirt. It's kinda expensive (around $60.00) but worth it. It's rated to hold upto 800 lbs. I don't weight that much anymore but it's nice to have that kind of confidence you won't be sprawled on the ground at an inopportune time. I wrapped the aluminum colored legs with camo tape.
-
I use the Torges seat but need a seat for when there isn't a suitable tree where I want to set up. I've tried a stool, nif-t-seat and a Double Bull seat but each has its drawbacks. Sure hope Ray can help.
-
OK,
here is the hunting chair I was talking about.
First picture is it in backpack mode. This is a prototype, first try. We are changing to include a set of welded on pieces of flat 1/2 inch wide stock that will allow a day pack to be added to the chair when packing around, and a fanny pack down lower if you so choose.
-
next view is the chair with its 'third leg' you cannot see but is strapped to the side of the chair while in backpack mode.
Its also this way only on prototype..we are changing to make it permanently affixed to the stand at all times, in its socket, so its that much faster to set up. In addition, we are making the feet larger in diameter so when placed on soft surfaces, or places with lots of duff on the ground the feet will be large enough to keep it from sinking in and it will stay in place.
-
If you are using it against a tree, you just don't 'deploy' the third leg..you leave it against the back, and lean the chair at whatever angle you desire/need for your bow limb to not hit the ground...more upright, less upright is up to you.
-
Ray, how bout some more specs on the chair. Weight, weight limit, height, width, price, etc...? Thanks this is very interesting and something I'd like to try out...Mike
-
Ray, I'm interested as well. How long before they are available. Fred
-
Guys, give Ray a couple of days, please. I'll try to have some answers this weekend. I'm trying to figure ways to make these work the best they can, and working my full time job 10 hours a day on top of that.Mike
-
I weigh 305 lbs...that's my chair. the fellow modeling it is 5 ft 10 1 /2 inches tall...I haven't measured it...but I cannot get ahead of myself...I feel funny doing anything with this till I get squared away with Rob and Terry on a sponsorship/vendor thing done.
Give me a couple days and I will be back with the details and a price, where to order, OK?
-
Ray, Sounds good. Thanks
-
No worries guys...sound like a jam up idea...and a great product. Let me know how Trad Gang can help.
-
Sounds great Ray, be sure to keep me posted as this looks to be about perfect to me...Mike
-
well, we are getting our website done right now. The chair weighs right around 7 lbs with good rubber backback straps like I have installed. Its made of steel- hand built one at a time by Squirrel Bait, aka Mike Mitchum, my partner in this venture.
This prototype has camo tape on it..but the production version will be painted with a gray base and light sea foam green and tan leaves with a few black 'branch'accents on it.
It will come with black webbed seat as you can see, and closed cell foam around the seat to keep you from fidgeting.
I'll be back shortly with weblink, pricing, etc.
-
What's the name of the company guys?
-
I'm trying to convince him to do an ultra-light aluminum model for us smaller framed kids ;)
-
Hamm-on-seat? :biglaugh:
-
Excellent! I'm in for one when you're ready to launch your venture
-
Not to take away from the idea but here is a another great seat. Check out Millennium Tree Stand's seat. Light weight and easy to carry in or strap to a pack. Lock on treestand is also a very good product.
-
I am always amazed by this site.
Ray is worried about taking advantage...
Terry is only concerned about Ray being successful.
Any one who does not believe in the "top down" theory needs to visit here.
Bob
-
JC, that's possible later...but aluminum requires a different, and more expensive welding machine we don't have at this time...and at 6 or 7 lbs it shouldnt be a big deal for most- I hope.
Bob@helle, Mike and I just didn't want anyone to feel like we were getting special treatment or using the site without paying, which I think has happened in the past- even the inference that we were somehow trying to do that would not sit well with either of us.
Terry, Rob and the moderators do such a wonderful job here (let me tell you how hard that mod job is- Terry asked me to try it and I had to beg off after a few months- it takes a special individual to handle that task!!!) we just wanted to be sure we didn't abuse the site in any way.
-
Ray and Mike, look forward to seeing these seats. I think it would work great for turkey hunting. Could not ask for two better guys to buy hunting gear from. Let us know when you have everything worked out.
-
O.K. well I think I got it working like I want it, I went in to work today, (yeah I know it's Saturday) but I spent all Friday morning in the Gainesville ER with my gall bladder screaming. I had to get some hours somehow, made Ray another seat, to see what he thought of the changes. I met with him , to have a look at it, he said he liked it. When we get the webbing on the seat, we'll see if Ray can't put some pics up.
-
Thanks Mike. Can't wait to see it.
-
Great looking seat Ray and Mike. This will definitely be on my "to buy" list as soon as you have it ready.
chris
-
It's going to be called the "Anywhere Hunting Chair" - we'll get things squared away and be back on here to let you know where to reach us.
Thanks everyone for your support.
-
Ray, Can't wait...I'm ready to place my order. Fred
-
We are now taking orders now... and if you are ordering we need one piece of information from you to build yours- how high off the ground do you want your seat level at? 16 inches, 17, 18, 20? Most kitchen chairs are 16...I like mine to be at 20 cause I hunt in some muddy areas. $ 99.95 includes shipping in lower 48 states.
PayPal charges us 2.75 to use the service- if you use that method please add that amount to the price.
Thank you!!!!email [email protected]
Thanks Ray
-
I've had good luck with my Torges Seat. I used a prussic knot set-up someone posted here earlier. Also added to zip-tie loops that allow me to clip it to my fanny pack (the kind with shoulder straps). Easy to carry and out of the way. Steve
-
SOS -- I like the zip tie idea. I made a Torges seat yesterday and have been trying to figure out how to carry it.
For those having trouble with it, I used some old rope that's been in my truck toolbox for ages, and it worked fine. The secret (actually it's in the instructions) is to get the rope high enough on the tree -- at least a foot above the seat.
Richard
-
Ray, Mailed my check out this morning...Fred
-
Ray,
Hope you did not misunderstand.
My intent was to only praise both parties for their desire to do every thing above board and each being concerned about the other.
I see no special treatment.
Sorry if I was not clear.
Good luck in your new venture!
Bob

Where to send order? Ray I PM'ed you. Thanks

hey Mike...has this thing been heavyweight tested?
-
It 's been checked by myself(260) and brother Ray(300). I can make you one that will hold both Wensels.
-
Titanium?
Make me one...I'm 365#
-
I use a fold up tripod seat with a back. Makes it easier to twist for shots. Duane
-
the great benefit to the Anywhere Chair is that it has back support...so if you sit for long periods, your butt doesnt go to sleep, AND you have back support...at the angle that is right for YOU.
And you can use it backed up to a tree...or use its "third leg" to sit in brush where there is no tree convenient.
-
Ray are you paying me the royalites or Squirrel bait? :jumper: One suggestion here is you might want to make the legs adjustable by having the legs side in and out with pressure button. One size fit all! good luck with your project.Hope ya'll make a mint or at least pocket money for a nice hunt with Schuster some where.
-
i KNEW I'd seen that seat somewhere before...
-
Thats one big SOB....wouldn't want to wrestle him over who sits in that tree....glad I hunt from the ground. ;)
-
joebuck, We ain't making these to make a killin'. Really at what we were asking for them $84.95 , we put the pack straps and then ship them we don't make hardly anything at all.Ray made the comment we were going up on them to 99.00. I ain't doing no pressure button thingy. I make them 36" long so the seat is 20" off the ground, and the buyer can cut them to there desired height. Biggie , I got you covered! As far as a hunt with Schuster , Kroger has Campbell's soup on sell so it wouldn't take much money to feed his sorry butt.
-
Ray, that chair looks like a great idea.
-
Thanks Mike...Ray just called and said he'd ship one out to me Monday....I'll give it the BIGgie test
-
Biggie must plan on hunting against some Redwoods in South Ga! :scared:
-
Biggie, you're going to like the chair. Got mine last week, shortened the legs a little and added a back pad (Mike's idea) and ready for the turkey woods.
-
Jeff, remember to send some pics of the big ol' bird and chair.
-
Mike, you can count on that....assuming the turks cooperate..ah and I don't miss (again). How about pics of me sleeping in the chair, probably can pull that off on day one.
-
Before Joey got married and gained some other financial obligations, he was our field tester. If something came out, Joebuck would get one or build one with his idea of improvements. He's the 1st bowyer I've ever seen that used a dog chew toy for bow backing.
If Joey has one......they must work!
-
I want everyone to send me hero pics with there chairs, I don't care if you are sleeping. I'm gonna put them in my photo album, right next to the pic of Biggie shoveling cake in.
-
I have had some "gadgets" over the years.. Made some "gadgets" over the years..But this Anywhere Seat.. is the perfect ground hunting companion.
-
I really like the Torges seat . I made it alittle bigger for me and am really pleased with it. Won't hunt without it now.
-
The Torges seat is good, I've made several, but the Anywhere Chair is better (IMO). Much more comfortable, more verstable..coorked trees or no trees..doesn't matter, and easier to setup...just lean it against a tree (when there is one)or use the third leg when no tree. Since I started hunting on the ground a couple years ago, I've tried everything from turkey stools, niff-t-seat, all terrain stool, doublebull 3 leg seat..you name it....but this is the best ground hunting seat I've found so far.
-
Thanks Guys , glad yall like them. Give them a work out this turkey season. Give me some reviews on them. Biggie, yours in on the way.
-
Only got to use mine a couple of times last year due to season closing right after I got it, but it is the cats meow! I like it because several of the places I hunted had no good tree where I needed it. It will solve that problem for me next year.
-
folding stool with an extra thick pad from Hall,s Arrow
-
O.K. Guys , I got a PayPal set up so it will be easy on everyone that wants to pay that way. If you are wanting a seat just P.M. me or e-mail at ( [email protected] ) Thanks Guys!
-
I work at wholesale Electrical company , I cant wait to try to build one, there is a unistrut product called telespar that is like telescopic tubing that make it adjustable...you could power coat the metal pvc and make drab olive green..marco#78oh heck Ill just order one too...LOL
-
Mike...you gonna have a few of these at TBG Banquet?
-
Yeah Terry , I'll have a few there. I'm going to try and make it this year too.

Guys I'm sorry for not noticing the price change earlier on page 6 in Ray's post. If I've told you a different price I will stand by it. So from now on as of April 1st they will be as advertised, 99.95 but I will not worry about the 2.75 for PayPal. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Mike

Great old thread pertaining to the Hunt Anywhere Chair. I placed my order in Dec 2007. Best money I ever spent on hunting gear. Why doesn't someone craft them now?
-
I use a Helinox swivel chair. comfortable, swivels, and good height.

I love it when these 15 year old threads get resurrected. Lots of memories in them. :campfire:

I like the old threads too. People seemed more friendlier back then. Don't even want to think about all the great guys and gals we've lost since then.

I tried several types of chairs and found them bulky to carry around. What I use now when I hunt the ground is a Saddle. I use it just like Saddle hunters do, except without the climbing. I look for a tree that has a couple trees or thick brush between me and where the deer are moving thru. I carry a small hand rake to clear the ground around the base of the tree, clear out a couple shooting lanes if need be, then connect my tether to the tree on the opposite side I expect deer to show up, then clip my saddle to the tether. Takes about 1 minute to set up. Using knee pads I can sit or lean. I usually do 20 to 30 minutes sitting, then switch to leaning for the same. I hang my bow on the tree of course. When I spot a deer I simply lean back with the tree between us and keep it that way as he moves. There is never enough of me showing to really catch their attention. If I want to shoot I'd wait until they were looking away or their eyes are behind a tree or brush. I've had deer 10 to 15 yards from me and look right me and pay no mind. I wear the Saddle in, it weighs about 2 pounds. I was using an H2 slingshot, but just got a CGM Sidewinder and it's so much easier to wear in, it compacts into a 5 inch belt, then pulls out with 2 pleats to a comfy butt hammock. You just can't go lighter or be more mobile.

Neat idea. The lady who owned Greeneās Tree Saddles said she was going to try this method for spring turkeys. Never heard how well it worked cause they went out of business.

I've used a lot of different styles and I have a Nif-T Seat, a Ground Effects and some others whose brand names escape me. One of my favs is a cushion with a back rest and I think it will strap to a tree. Wide enough for my behind and enough cushion to keep me from squirming too much, it's pretty comfortable.
The Ground Effects seat is fairly new on the market and my only complaint is that the seat is not quite large enough and it does not have quite enough padding.
Good luck in your search.

I have two of these. They pack really small and light. You can set them up to sit up straight or lounge. You can swivel around the tree if you need to.

An Alps Outdoorz folding seat or an Ascend kayak seat. Both work for me. The kayak seat keeps you off the ground. The Alps seat is best used with a ground cushion in my opinion. Other kayak seats may work but I just use the one from my kayak.😀
Both are under $30 and very portable.

I'm a big fan of using a duck hunting seat. Stab it in the ground and presto your hunting. Lightweight and easy to use. If you adjust the height you can be in a position to stand for a shot easily if you want.

I use something like this:

The one I bought is not available any more, but there's similar ones on the site, like the one in the link, which I'm posting just to give the idea. I love it. The only thing, make sure it's on flat ground and you're sitting in the center, or it will go in pieces (which you can assemble back with some patience... 🙄 )
Best,
Max

I'll have to take a picture of my shabby seat ;^)))
I got this pic off line. It's a coleman . Noisy , seat is bright....but it is light and not bad to set on. Good height .
I modified mine on the cheap.....Camo spray paint the fabric.....and wrapped the metal legs with ....sliced length wise old bicycle inner tubes ;^))) Then made 2 shoulder straps , and added two small bungees to hold it tightly collapsed/folded . I can carry my Alpha quiver nicely attached (and fully accessible)with bungee as well. Super light and easy to carry like mentioned above.
My old swivel stool is comfy , but heavy and awkward to carry.
" Necessity is the mother of all invention" ;^)
My dream seat is a Waldrop pack seat......One of these days !

OK...found a few pics of my mod. Coleman "shabby" :biglaugh:
This was an "OLD ONE" my brother gave me yrs ago that was fastened folded in the bed of my old truck . Emergency seat in a jiff ;^)) So it was handy for experimentation ....
This one had "bright green" fabric....Little noisy but usable . I would like to change-out the fabric at some point , but it works & the price is right ......desert tan base , then other flat earth-tones to blend. The old inner-tube leg wrapps work excellent & made it very silent while portag'ing :biglaugh:
Vry silent in usage , and pretty comfy. I like the fact that my quiver/arrows are accessible while traveling to and fro......Good little setup on the cheap with a little work. I can/will make a few improvements over the off season for sure. Just under 4# counting bungee & shoulder straps - minus quiver & arrows ;^). .......options :campfire:
sincerely,

These are the ones I like. They are small and don't have the arm rest. They are easy to pack in and out,and they are comfortable. I have a different one from Cabela's,but basiclly the same as this one.

Guilty of not reading the entire thread before posting :knothead: :biglaugh:
Looks like okkeith and myself do/did about the same with simular seats ...
The seat is very compact as modified . Making it a packable seat that I could attach me quiver to ....
The rubber inner tube wrapping of the legs/frame quiets this sytem to huntworth status on the cheap.
Bungee locks it all together and keeps the arrows/quiver accessible .Adding two shoulder straps is pretty easyas well.
Hope it helps someone......... :campfire:
