I had the honor of meeting Kristen Friday. Kristen is an 11 year old 5th grade student who is and A-B student. She loves science but not math but works real hard in all her subjects because this young lady aspires to be a veternarian when she grows up. Kristen is legally blind. She has what her mom describes as center block vision, which means if she is looking at you within talking distance she can only see your hair, neck and ears. But Kristen will shift her head to get pieces of your face...then her brain puts these pieces of the puzzle together to form a picture and then she will recognize you. Kristen isn't allowed to participate in sports but knew there something out there that was "her sport". Clarence Taylor a dedicated archer and vice-president met Kristen and immediately began a friendship. She has a plastic longbow that someone gave her and she came to my range this weekend to shoot. She is one sweet young lady and a great attitude. She would stand at the stake and process the target and then shoot. And she would hit more than she missed. Not bad for someone who has been shooting only a month and a half. I know how tradgangers like to help children and thought their would be some good hearted people on here that would donate some of their craft to Kristen. I am in the process of making her an armguard, and any other trad gear would be greatly appreciated. This little girl loves to shoot her bow and make 3D shoots and assured me that she would harvest a deer with her bow someday. Some of the compounders are trying to convince her and her mother that she would be better off with wheels. Lets jump in and show our love for trad archery and children and help her out! Thank you and I will post pix of her in the next thread. kd

Thanks Guys!!! I don't know how tall she is but 20# is about the right weight for her.....JC...we were looking this weekend an decided 26" arrows with a light point would be good.
For obvious reasons her mother did not want me to publish her address....so please send to me and send a note with your address on anything that you send so that she can send a thank you letter.
My address is:
Bobby Shock

Thanks yall and please don't throw any roses my way....I feel blessed and honored to help this young lady ....just to hear her talk about her love for archery and to see her little face glow when she hits the target is my reward! Thank you again! Bobby
-
I think I'm in love ;) - I wanted to be a veternarian also when I was young - I hope she sticks too it, I have always regretted that I didn't. You - go Kristen, and take your bent for archery right along with you, little lady.
Good on you, the VP and her Mom, Kildog. Am looking forward to seeing more of the story unfold when I get my own computer back and on line. All of you keep up the good work.
-
Thanks ber....good luck on getting your computer back. kd
-
Ah - my pleasure - and got it back today (and even got logged back in here - First things First - LOL). Now I got to get all my e-mail adees back in my book folks, so send me one for that purpose only (make sure you include your handle in case my memory falters - LOL)
-
SLR....thank you for the bow! I am going to present it to her ar my next shoot...and I will get pix! God bless you. kd
-
Bobby...what does she need in the way of bow strings?
-
Bobby, There are a number of tradgang veterinarians here too. If I can be of any help, let me know. I went deaf a few years back but regained some hearing in one ear. There is a site for hearing impaired physicians that really helped me. I would assume there are other sites for visually impaired.
I don't have any light weight kids gear but if there is some kind of fund to get Kristin some other gear let me know that too...Jeff
-
I will check that bowstring.
Tippit I appreciate the info....there is no fund...but if someone could help find a skin or a quiver made of some kind of skin for her that would be great...she kept following a shooter with a deer skin quiver and touching it and I thought if we could come up with one that would be great. I will pay for her to have one just can't afford a lot. The kind with the hair on it. Thanks...kd
-
Kildog, I will try to get a quiver from Frank & Shell. He had been interested in one of my knives but as I've said before I make these for special occasions and don't sell them. This is a special occasion! I will either trade or buy Kristin a fur quiver...Jeff
-
Thank you so much tippit...God bless you! I am a big man...and a retired firefighter....but let me tell ya...you tradgangers bring a tear to my eye! kd
-
kildog, i make custom bows and would be happy to make her a bow, if she dont have one yet, if she does i will make it for anyone ,in a like position, let me know
-
Anyone still interested in helping Kristen, I will be presenting the items sent to her next Sat August 26. Thank you and God bless you. kd
-
OK first I wanna thank killdog for bringing this Girl to our attention. And I wanna thank Tippit for allowing Shell to make her a quiver for him to give to her. Both you guys are really what this sight is all about. There are alot of people on here that always step up to help someone no matter what it is. From givig someone a bow to someone needing a string. Shell and I can't wait to see pics of Kristen with all her cool stuff. Thanks guys and God Bless.<><

Ok stic....here is some pix of today....anyone else who still wants to help Kristen...continue...I hope this is just the beginning ....not the end! Before I post the pix I want to personally give a big thank you to skinny little runt, tippit, sticshooter and shell! Thank you....it was a blessed day for me!!!! Please pm me an address...Kristen told me this would not be complete with writing you and wants yall's email addresses....she said she wants to talk to her new friends! That my fellow tradgangers is a blessing in itself! kd

There was also an arrow made primitive archer John Pruitt of Illinois...the arrow was handcrafted out of river cane with turkey feather flecthing and a napped head. It was a wonderful day...I wish each of you could have been there to enjoy it with me!!!!I know that you were there in spirit!!! Kristen loves you all and by the way ....she just about rubbed a hole in that quiver....when her hand was not touching it ......it was on her cheek! You tradgangers made one happy little girl! Tippit I told her you was a vet and she especially wants to email you. Thanks again to everybody! kd
-
Oh yeah one more thing and then I will shut up....the county newspaper was on scene to do a story on this amazing little girl! kd
