Years ago Jack told me he used sights on his bow. Was there a specific reason he went to sights, and what type of sighting system did he use.
-
My understanding was he suffered from severe targit panic while shooting instinctive and went to the sights to cure this problem. Doing so, he found out how effective it was and continued to use it thereafter. The vast majority of his animals were harvested while using sights.
He used a four pin Merrill Heart Shot sight with pins set at 15, 30, 45, & 60 yards. For in between distances he would bracket two of the sights. He was very deadly with this combination and turned out to be one of the better shooters on NFAA outdoor courses for many years.
How have you been, Rod?

In 1969 Jack built me a Gamemaster. It came with a 3 pin Merrill sight and the instructions to set it up at 20, 40, and 50 yards and for a 30 yard shot to bracket it between the 20 and 40 yard pins. I still have the bow and it is still set up that way. I haven't shot it in 29 years, John Schulz got me started with longbows in 1978.
Jack never mentioned target panic to me although he did mention it in an article he wrote.

LP Kelley,
I would love to see the setup you mentioned. Could you post a picture of it?

This isn't a Merrill sight, but it's somewhat similar and is available today from E.W. Bateman... the sight pin(s) slide up/down and lock down on the slider bar.
