Title: Clickers anyone??
Post by: String Cutter on February 15, 2007, 03:08:00 PM
I think one of my problems is consistent draw length. Has anyone out there used a clicker?
How hard are they to set up and after you use them for awhile can you still get a consistent draw when you take them off??

I have tried a clicker but eventually went to a system of drawing until the back edge of the broadhead touches the riser. This gives a positive stop that you can't draw past. I mount my broadheads so they're horizontal when nocked so this works. You could also draw till it touches your finger with a vertical mounted head but it makes me nervous. The clickers are hard to keep adjusted. If your brace height changes, so does your draw. They also tangle up when the bow's unstrung. As usual, simpler is best.

I use one and love it. Cured 12 years of target panic. I don't have to adjust it that much and they are very easy to set up. Check out the shooters forum as well. Good Luck

I use on every bow I own. I have a serious injury to the shoulder on my drawing side. If I dont use a clicker I'll short draw every time. I started using one three years ago and my shooting have improved 300% and I am not a novice to this game. @ I was all ways afraid some one would say its not traditional but I decided acuracy was more important. Also , don't believe what any one says about them scaring game, thats total bs, Just ask the dead deer and dead turkeys that have fallen to my bows in the last three years. If they hear the click, its the last thing they hear.

I don't hunt with one but i keep a spare bow with one strung up in the garage and try to pull it whenever i get a chance....10-15 times a day. I find it helps me when i shoot my hunting bows, i never have to think about getting to full draw.

If you have a shooting problem and the clicker helps you cure it that is great. But if you want to compete at any shoots you will run into trouble with the people that don't shoot one plain and simple. To have that of an consistant draw is a great aid and naturally it should help you all around in anyones shooting. Their is a division in the NFAA called barebow and that is where the clicker belongs.

Let's say I shoot with one 200-300 times a week. If I took it off for the shoots I go to Should I be able to draw consistantly pretty good without it for 30 or so targets??? Or is it one of those things that you have to have every shot???

I practice with a clicker and hunt without a clicker.  I think my practice with a clicker makes me more consistent when I shoot without a clicker.  I think shooting with a clicker is going to help your shooting without a clicker, not hurt it.

Is there a specific brand that is recommended? 3 Rivers carries 2 different types.

When I went to purchase one, a couple of friends said to get the "Clickety-Klicker" and NOT the "Crick-It".

Unfortunately, I cannot remember their argument,  but I have been very happy  with the "Clickety-Klicker". I removed the chain and just use braided nylon. 3 Rivers sells both.

The Clickety-Klicker is the one I ordered. Is it the one that also clicks if you let down on the string too?
I'm thinking of using the clicker and going to gap shooting. In hopes that this will tighten up my groups. Right now I can hit the 8 ring @20 yrds instinctivly  about every shot if nobody else is around. If being watched or shooting at deer I seem to fall apart. Plus shooting instictive I'm still not grouping very well. I'm really at a total loss as what else I should do??? Can't afford a Video cam. right now and don't know if it would help that much if'n I did.

I have been shooting a clicker for over ten years now, it will improve your shooting, only if you use it the way it is suppose to be used and that is to get you to full draw every time.

I never under draw or over draw so my arrowflyte is consistent.

If your so out of control that you cant execute a shot if your under pressure ( some one watching or a deer ) man, wait until a monster buck comes to pay you a call, that's why they make safety belts for the tree standers LOL.

String Cutter, it's in your head bro, set up the clicker and move up to 10 feet and start to relaxes, just practices perfect form, don't even try and group your arrows, just perfect form.

You will be amazed at how you start to take off nocks, just practising perfect form, then take a step back and repeat, then take another, as you maintain your perfect form, if you get out of control move back up.

By taking it vary slow to move away from your target and practising perfect form you will stay in control of you shot.

Hope this will assist you in becoming a better shot

PS. I use my clicker for hunting, I played with it to make it barely audible, it just makes a little bump.

Shakes.602, recurve and longbow for me and if I shot a self-bow I'd have it on it to.
