Title: For the experts
Post by: 2Blade on March 16, 2007, 05:51:00 PM
Could you guys show me a pic of what my fingers should look like on the string? My finger placentment stays the same but my hand is always different every shot it doesn't seem to effect my shooting but my anchor feels different every shot. Also how tense should my fingers be on the string? Im looking for some imput from Terry as well as some of the other experts mind you I shoot split finger style if that helps any.

The back of your hand should be paralell to the plane of the string.  If you look at the crease in your glove or tab, it should fall right along your finger joints.  Sometimes, if you have a high elbow, your fingers will want to torque the string outwards.  Asbell's video on instinctive shooting explains this better.

P.S. - I am no expert.  I am just someone who once had the same question.

I'm no expert either but one thing that has helped me is I started using a 2 point anchor.
I use my middle finger corner of mouth and thumb knucle at the point of my jaw. Experiment around and find one that works for you.

Ive been told that if you put your thumb over your pinky nail that it offers a good clean release does anyone shoot like that?

What Pigsticker and Loco said....

And I don't do the thumb pinky thing ....puts tension in the back of the hand.

Does anyone have a pic so I can really see how my hand should look?

Sorry, I don't have any pics, but try to concentrate on getting equalized pressure across all three fingers and your hand should fall right into line.  If you are torquing the string outward, you will notice that the most pressure is on your first two fingers and you will likely also develop a callus on your ring finger.  Beg, borrow or steal a copy of Asbell's instinctive shooting video.  I am not saying it is the Bible of instinctive shooting, but he breaks down several aspects of shooting form and you may pick up some pointers and things to help you along (take from it what you can use, discard the rest).  Also, if you want a REALLY consistent anchor, touch one of your teeth with your middle finger when you are at full draw.  Just make sure you are always looking at the target with both eyes.

I feel I have good pressure on all fingers I have a wart on my pointer finger (gross lol) and its sensitive its actully kind of good I know if it hurts like a son of a gun I know I didnt do something right with my release. Certains ill grip the string to hard and about come to tears it hurts that bad ive had a hard time shooting fingers with it ive had it bleed all over cause of the string. I dont understand how I hit it its right next to my finger nail I would like to get back in to my tab but with that it gives me a shooting pain through my finger from the wart where the glove doesnt.

Well, if your anchor feels different each time, then maybe it is different. Are you putting your fingers in the exact same place each time? Many of us will place/press one of the fingers on the drawing hand on a tooth or other hard part of our face to make a consistent anchor.

Also, feel free to call about your arrow questions as we discussed in an earlier email.

I think alot of it was not using BT I feel more at ease now then I did pulling with my arm now I feel my fingers are consistent but my hand still seems to be extended sometimes. I was thinking of putting my thumb in to the center of my hand does this cause any unwanted pressure?

Beleg- Thanks for the link to me it looks like alot of them shooters drop their ring finger I personally dont like the feeling of that it makes me feel unstable with my hand. Do alot of you guys drop the ring finger?
