Since I have been shooting traditional, I have always used the swing draw. About a week ago I realized that my accuracy improved when I set my bow arm before the draw. I try to draw the bow back a slow as possible. It really helped me concentrate on my alignment thus improving my shooting. Anybody else use this method?

When you say you're setting your bow arm before the draw, do you mean you're not using the swing draw anymore? Are starting your draw after raising up your bow arm?

Yes....I practice both ways.
I use a bow quiver and fletch cover, and can't tell you how many times I use the set draw not only as a style of shooting, but also as a blind. When you use the set draw, the bow and bow quiver full of arrows acts as a blind to help break up your outline, and you simply draw from that position when the animal asks for the arrow.

McDave, I set the bow arm then draw as slowly as possible. When I hit my anchor I release. I also have been practicing holding at my anchor 10 to 15 seconds, just in case I have to in the fall. When you slow everything down - in terms of your draw it really helps you "see" what you are actually doing. It seems to help me know what to adjust when I make a shot off the mark.

Slayer I to gave up the swing draw not because it didnt work but I didnt want to use something that would spook game I have nothing against it but I agree with Terry your set arm draw acts as a blind with all your arrows.

Just FYI, i am a "newbie" to traditional shooting, so take this for what its worth.
I use a set arm, slow draw, delayed release method of shooting. I'm not sure if it is right or wrong,but it is comfortable for me. :archer:

Guys.....the swing draw has a purpose........don't neglect it from your arsenal.
If the game you are after starts to flee....you can swing draw on it in hope of it stopping still in range....or even offering you a 2nd shot.
It worked for HH and it works for Asbell.......and its worked for me. It may well work for you, if you've practiced it a bit. Its not hard to do, and almost comes automatically at the time of need.

For awhile I was using a half swing draw if you will where I wouldn't have it by my waist but more toward my chest and stomach area to minimize movement not sure if that's still considered the SD

Terry is correct that you should practice the swing draw. I agree it has it's place and has helped me in the woods in the past. Swing draw is "fluid" and quick. This being said I use the set arm draw most when hunting from the ground. I hide behind my bow, it helps me to slow down and do things right.
