For me...the best part of practise is stumping. But I have a problem.....some of my arrows keep playing hide n seek with me. My question to you."What is the best colour feathers for stump shooting, as well as hunting"?
Appreciate your help.

Orange JMHO
I have tryed red but I can see orange better.

I got bright orange and bright yellow. (for stump shooting)
was excited and thought "I won't loose these"
They blended right into the fresh leaves on the ground!
I have switched to bright pink (my daughter's favorite color) and bright green: Those seem to work real well.
I have heard others say "bright blue", as nothing in the woods is that color.
Good luck.
-
Chartruese, White, Flo Orange,Flo Lime Green and Hop Pink. I bowhunt with White/Chart and Hot Pink and its a real value add.
-
Bright blue and bright yellow with a yellow or blue cap dip.
-
I USE BLACK FLETCH WITH AN ORANG OR YELLOW NOCK. HOPEFULLY I'M NOT MISSING VERY OFTEN.
-
Bosveld,
Pick colors that 1) don't match the surroundings, and 2) you can see really well.
Everyone has a color that just jumps out at them and it's different for different people. I use lime/chartreuse. A well known bowhunter uses red all the time but for me they wouldn't show up at all. So, pick what works best for you and don't worry about shooting "strange" colors. Fred Eichler shoots hot pink fletch and I don't see anyone giving him a hard time about it.

Here is one color combo that works great for me http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p286/deerslayer1961/arrow1-1.jpg

snakeeater has it nailed
-
chartreuse on all 3 helps an old feller like me
-
Forest Green.... if I can't find it. Nobody else will either!!! :bigsmyl: Just kidding!
I like White Hen Feathers.
-
Friend of mine can't see red because of color vision.
Use reflective wraps and go back at night.
Works with any fletching color.
-
I use white arrow wraps and the white and red barred feathers you can get at 3 rivers now with a black cock feather( Huskers and Red Sox). Aint lost one yet...WOOPS now I will :knothead: :banghead:
-
Dave thomas hit it on the head, there have been studies to show that the human eye sees flo. yellow or chartreuse and baby or powder blue the best regardless of the enviroment. Shawn
-
Blue nothing in the woods is blue, they stand right out.
-
I use solid yellow shaft, yellow feathers and yellow nock on all my arrows but they are a little hard to find if you are stumping where there are a lot of yellow flowers but are great for hunting. :D :D :D
-
For me, the best fletching color for stump-shooting is the same thing I use for hunting. One of the worst things for me to have happen is not seeing where my arrow hits an animal. That's why I use yellow and orange feather. It's not 100%, but it's the best I've found.
-
I think blues wore the best as there is nothing in the woods which is naturally blue and the do stand out

I would probably not use blue feathers during the spring turkey season.Same goes with red.
-
I third the study That Chartreuse, Flouressent Yellow / green is seen very well by the Human eye and not so well by ANIMALS either.... Look at the newer rescue/fire trucks... Cant miss those suckers.....
-
Oh I have to DIS AGREE with pointysticks....
Sorry all but SMURFS are Blue....They Are in the woods..... :smileystooges:
-
All I use, pretty much exclusively for hunting and practice, is chartreuse. Have used white, but never during deer season, so I've abandoned white all together.
I like to see my arrow in flight, for positive response to the brain of the impact.
I hide my fletching with a fletch cover if I'm using a bow quiver.
-
I use Orange, Yellow, Chartrouse, White, Blue, and Pink. All of these work great for me while out stump shooting or at the 3-D range. I have never had a problem hunting with any of these arrows either.
-
I would use colors that are as unnatural as you can fine. Even the bright orange and yellows can hide during the fall when leaves are in those colors. A judo up frontwill help keep you from loosing arrows while stumping. Pat
-
Yep Pat B, Judo's save a lot of arrows :D :D :D

Top three colors for me are blue, blue or blue; except yellow for turkey. Other than the occasional wildflower, there is very little blue in the woods. Not a good idea during turkey season though; especially in heavily hunted areas.
-
Oh great, next I suppose we will all have to wear baby blue or pink hunting clothes so everyone can see us. How smart is it that the compound archers all seem to be using camo arrows to hunt with? I wonder how hard they are to find after being shot at a deer?
-
Terry makes a good point about hiding the bright fletching on your bowquiver...waving those things around is sure to attract attention in the woods, especially at close range. But, I never could find a fletch cover that I liked since most fabrics make noise when fletch touches it, and they tend to grab bushes too. Have settled on a bright #1 arrow and drabber backup arrows.
