Title: Started hitting right?
Post by: Chris Surtees on May 01, 2007, 09:19:00 PM
About the last two weeks I have started shooting a lot of arrows to the right. About half of every group hits right about 4 to 6 inches(4 of 8 arrows on average).

Also when I am shooting at 3D's almost all my arrows hit right a couple of inches.

Tonight I shoot three arrows, a bareshaft, field point, and broadhead, at ten yards just to see if something was going on. All grouped pretty well and for the most part consistant. The bareshaft was always about an inch low, and the broadhead and field point would be within a half inch and most of the time the field point was the higher of the two. All the groups at 10 yards where less than three inches. Also the bare shaft is hitting nock high and right but I was told not to worry about this since my field points and broadheads fly really good and are grouping well. Not sure if this could be an issue or not.

I know I like to peek at times, which would cause the right hits, and really have to concentrate not to do it but is there anything else that I could be doing that would cause this?

My setup is a 40lb recurve and I am shooting 27" AD trad lites with 200 up front.

Thanks
Chris

CLS, how do your bareshafts and feathered shafts group at 20 or 25yds? If you haven't shot them that far it might give you a better picture.

Shot at 15 and 20 this morning. The bareshaft is hitting a little low and is still nock high and right. For the most part fletched and bareshafts are grouping.

Up until about two weeks ago I was pretty much putting all my arrows in a 8" plate out to 25 yards. Of course I did have the couple of flys and they also hit right. It is very rare that I have an arrow go left.

Had my buddy stand behind me and watch the arrow all the way to the target to see if it was doing something that I could not see. He said arrow flight looked great.

I am not really concerned about spine as I am what else I may be doing to cause the arrows to hit right.

I do know that I short draw at times but this is do to my shoulder locking up. Had shoulder surgory 5 months ago and am still recovering as I do know at times my form is off but I can feel this and stop shooting for that day.

From sorting out my own shooting problems now and again I have found that if I am hitting right it is usually something I am doing with my bow arm or grip. If I am hitting left it is usually something I am going with my release hand. I just went through this Saturday. I have to mentally reprogram sometimes. Pick a spot, loose grip, draw slowly, lock on spot, push, pull, release and keep bow arm pointed at the target until the arrow hits. Thats my shooting sequence I run through. Mabey that will help some.

I am back on track now. Really do not know what happen but Friday night everything came together again. I was really comfortable and relaxed while shooting which was not the case the couple weeks prior.
