Title: TP question
Post by: mmgrode on May 25, 2007, 11:26:00 AM
Hey Gang,
I have been overseas for several months now and have shot lighter bows to try and get my form consistent. Here's my issue: I'm concerned about getting back to my old bad habits once I get back to my heavier bows back home. Do you think it would be adviseable to shoot with my eyes closed for a couple weeks to get the form down with the heavier weights before going for accuracy? This was my problem before going overseas(specifically short drawing); tp when going to shoot, but perfect(well, perfect for me) form when eyes closed. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers, Matt

Matt,
I can't help but wonder if the real problem might be that you are overbowed.  You don't say what weight your heavier bows are or what the lighter bows pull but the fact that you have problems with one and not the other sounds significant.  Can you hold full draw with your heavier bow for several seconds comfortably?

As far as eyes-closed form practice goes, it's never a bad idea.  Anytime my shooting starts to slip I move up close and practice form that way.

Good Luck and a safe trip home!
John

John- thanks for the reply. Yes, I can hold the heavier bows at full draw quite comfortably with eyes closed, but once I open them everything usually goes haywire. The same is true when I draw the bow back knowing that I am not going to release...it comes back just fine, but once I know that I will actually be shooting I end up short drawing. This is why I was curious if it might be helpful to stay eyes closed for a while. Anyone have this work for them? Thanks!  Cheers, Matt

Get Jay Kidwells book, It has lots of advice for dealing with this.
