Title: ACHERY GOLF
Post by: HAWGDOG on July 17, 2007, 06:15:00 PM
Just wanted to know how many of you guys and gals have ever played archery golf. I am thinking of maybe setting up a tournament as a fund raiser for a local club. Just wanted some ideas or or if any locals would be intersted.
I have ideas of flu-flu arrows and a hula-hoop placed on green as the hole. Strokes to be counted same as golf.

Sounds like fun. I'm about three hours away. I've always wanted to try it.

I have read before that the "Hole" is often a rubber ball placed on a post near the hole.

Here is some more info.

Our club has hosted an archery golf shoot for the past several years. It is probably the most fun you can have with a bow and arrow!

We have utilized farm fields and reclaimed coal strip mines. The "holes" are usually large stuffed animals or other homemade novelty type targets. Ranges vary from 100yd to over 500yd. For safety sake we limit the course to 9 holes and travel as a group (we usually have around 3doz shooters). It's cool when we all tee off at the same time.

We have a closest to the pin contest where the winner gets to hold a Bear static recurve 'til the next year. The winner of the shoot receives an ugly coffee mug with our logo. Afterward we have a big fire and picnic.

We have our shoots in the early spring and have weather from 70's to 20's with snow squalls like last year. Regardless what the weather, we have a blast!

I have played "Arcehry Golf" along side of Red beastmaster. I share his opinion that it's big fun! Plenty of smiles and laughs along the way.

The Hu-la hoop sounds like a good idea, but your targets should vary, and the terrian you set your course on can also make the shoot more interesting.

I haven't played in years.. but I also remember a ball about the size of a softball on a post that you had to knock off...
It was great fun and a lot of teasing along the way...

we have several golf shoots out here every spring.
we use a 9" high piece of 2 1/2" fire hose for the target, usually stuffed with something to keep it kind of round.
this game is what got me started in archery. damon howatt and doc kenagy were playing across my range land and i trotted a horse over to see what they were doing. the next weekend damon brought a bow, quiver and arrows for me to use and 10-12 miles down the sagebrush hills later i had a new hobby.

Yes, we used to play on Cumberland golf course just outside of Carlisle, PA.  We used 4" styrofoam balls from the craft store, on a post about 2' high set beside the green, but not on it. That keeps street shoes off the greens.  I still have my "driving" arrows.  Flight arrows with the max yardage marked on them. Bill G.
