A while back I posted a video of my shooting form and I was not reaching full draw. I talked with Terry and worked with Ron LaClair and I think I am getting close. Here was my original video:

And here is the new and hopefully improved video:

Sorry for the shaky video, my wife was recording me!

Much smoother draw and release.
-
Thanks Roger! Ron said he used the medium stick on me while I was there but if I have to go back for more lessons he was going to get out the big stick. Ray warned me about that and told me to avoid that at all costs!!
-
Just remember, Ron aint tough to outrun! ;0)
-
LMAO!!! That right there is funny!! But he did tell me the moose story and I dont want to be shot in the A$$!!
-
I like the raccoon look and swinging light cord in the first video.

Tim, I'm no Ron Laclair.....but here's what I see...What you're doing now is better....but, If you look at your follow thru after release, your hand never goes back at all(actually stays in front of your face)...which tells me that you are not using you big back muscles at all, which would get your elbow back where it should be IMO....you are robbing yourself of about 2 inches of draw and really getting a lot out of your bow.
Read what I wrote on "whitebuffalo's" form thread...I see a lot of the same in you bud.....try it...see what you think.....Either way, you've made some good improvement already...
-
Dude its crazy feeling but but he's right,,I can almost draw my full length ceadars to the back of point,,I must be drawing darn near 30" and the improvement in my arrow and bow is wild too,,I'll call ya,,J

Curt, Thanks for your imput. I have always used this style release. When I draw I hit anchor and nothing moves from there. I keep everything right in place until the arrow hits its mark. I have tried to "draw through" my shot before and it just does not work for me.
-
I'm not saying you should shoot as I do...what I'm trying to say is that it looks like you don't have a positive "push-pull",in other words you're not using your back muscles.
Where is your anchor?
Looks to me like it could be brought back further...
-
Curt, My anchor is my middle finger in the corner of my mouth. Depending on the shot sometimes I hold for a second or two and sometimes it is gone as soon as I feel my finger touch my lip. I have noticed that it mostly depends on distance. If I shoot at a comfortable range (ie. 20-25 yards) then I dont hold anchor very long at all but if the target is out beyond that then I tend to hold my form and make sure everything is in place before I release.
-
Tim,
Theres a segment in the Bowhunters of Trad Gang DVD ...about a double anchor.
Don't be afraid to cozy up to your release hand, and draw your lips back a bit....that will get your elbow farther back....AND, if you can, you may be able to incorporate a 'double anchor' as your thumb base knuckle will slide in behind your jaw under your ear.
Here's a pic....this is full extension....utilizing all I got...with proper alignment, and a double anchor...and you can see, there is no 'scrunched up' look to it.
If what I posted above you can execute,(depending on your body structure) you might gain an inch or more of draw length, and you'll be more inline and set up more on bone structure. You do not 'have' to pull through....but with full extension, you might feel different about a more follow through release. Mess around and see what you can come up with.
What ever works for ya......burn, burn, burn it in.
-
Thanks Terry, I will keep working and see what I can come up with. Season is only 6 weeks away and I am shooting pretty good so I dont know how much more I will try and change now. There is always room for improvement and I dont think I will ever stop trying different things. Thanks again for all your help.

Tim.....kick it around a bit....something might 'click' and you'll be off to the races.
BTW..I forgot to post the pic in the above post...

Tim - these guys are great shooters and thier advice is solid...I would just warn against changing to much all at once with October 1st so close, especially if you are shooting well.
I pay attention to ALL good shooters form. I don't shoot anything like Fred Asbell or Ron LaClair, but I have learned a lot from both of them. There is always SOMETHING that can be improved...
-
Thanks Roger. That is my thoughts to. I take everything into consideration that people tell me and I am usually open to different ideas that will improve my shooting. But this close to season I think I will just save all this knowlege and play with my form some more after the season is over. I still have a lot of room for improvement and I will hopefully continue to do so.
-
True Roger...very true...you only want to work on fixing one thing at a time.
-
Like everyone said you are losing a couple of inches worth of draw but...if your shooting well and are happy then that's all that counts.
