I have been shooting for 3 years now.
I shot compound for years before that.
Tonight just minutes ago while shooting I thought to myself I shot a gun with one eye open I shot my compound with one eye open.
So i tried and shot with one eye open and I was doing really well with my consistency.
I dont really know what is common 1 eye open or both eyes open
I shoot instinctively I dont shoot gap just concentrate on the target
Any input would be great thanks

I concentrate better with both eyes on the spot.

If you shoot with one eye your depth perception won't be right. I have always shot a shotgun with both eyes open as well as a bow when shooting instinctive. Ben

I agree I think you will be better off with both eyes open, it may work on targets but there is to much going on when trying to pick a spot on an animal, with one eye unless thats all you have it would be difficult to have depth perception. And have a feel for how the critter is reacting ie relaxed tense etc.

I must respectfully disagree. I shoot now with my left eye closed, RH due to being left eye dominate. I do see the arrow in my peripheral vision, and I use it to line up the shot. The distance "judging" is accomplished with both eyes open, I draw, close my left eye, line the arrow up (split vision is probably the correct term here) and release. Granted you do have to practice this quite alot to get used to different distances and angles. I've tried to shoot instictive this way also, I can, but I tend to hurry my shots, most likely due to telling myself not to look for the arrow. Nothing against insticntive shooting, started that way myself, but started fooling around with the split-vision method, found out about my left eye being dominate and started to shoot with the eye closed.
As the saying goes, different strokes for different folks. In case I get flanked for shooting that way, I've always shot rifles and pistols with one eye closed. Did well enough in the military to qualify as expert with both, even shooting the pistol left handed.

Interesting, I too am left eye dom., I shot for years instinctively(as I do now)and shot with both eyes open.
I have since switched to my left hand for shooting and it is much better. I can't speak for others, but if you are left eyed dom, or right eye dom. and you shoot off the other arm, switching is not that hard, and the benefits are well worth it.
To me, two eyes are better than one!
