Title: New shooting problem!
Post by: bsigal on April 22, 2009, 10:48:00 AM
I am fairly new to bare bow and have been improving at what I think is a normal rate.  Up until maybe 6 weeks ago, I was able to put together 3 to 4 inch groups fairly consistantly.  Now, when I come back to full draw, I am seeing two targets or seeing double.  I notice it the most when outdoors shooting at muzzy blocks.

Anyone out there have any thoughts on this.  Any help would be appreciated.

Tnx Ben

You might be turning your face too far causing your left eye to take over.  Or your anchor is too high.

You will see double if you are focusing on the arrow tip rather than on the target (or if you get hit too hard on the head, I guess ;-)).

Check to be sure you are shooting dominant-eye side.

When I shoot my 90 pounder I get a bit cross-eyed and also see 2 targets...and it takes about 20 minutes for it to go away.

hahahaha.....   :biglaugh:

Seeing 2 targets is odd. Ussually eye dominance issues result in seeing 2 arrow tips.

It sounds like your focusing on the arrow.

If you're shooting with your dominant eye and it isn't from using the tip as an aiming reference it could be from a change in vision. You don't mention if you wear glasses or contacts but that can change how you see the target. I wear contacts. Lately I have been having trouble with focusing and sometimes getting distortion or doubles. I just got my prescription changed and now I'm seeing clear.

Might be something to consider if you haven't been to the eye doc for a while.

First of all, let me thank all of you who have responded to this post.

Last weekend, I finally figures out what my problem was.  Notice the past tense.  Yes, I do wear glasses, as Str8Shooter suggested.  The Prescription is new, so that was not the problem.  I use a double anchor.  Middle finger in the corner of my mouth and index finger on my cheek bone.  My index finger on cheek bone moved the skin and pushed or moved my glasses distorting my vision.  I feel a little stupid, not having noticed it sooner.  I suppose that focusing so intently on my spot made me oblivious to everything else.

Tnx again everyone, and as always tradgangers are the best.

Ben

If its a question of eye dominence, try focusing with one eye closed [for a second] then open it and staying focused, release. This may correct it.It worked for me. Every now and then I have to readjust 'myself'....
