Title: 3 under anchor
Post by: xtrema312 on August 20, 2009, 11:35:00 PM
I shoot split now, but tried 3 under today.  I was surprised at the groups I got.  As good or better than split, and I was all shot out when I tried it.  The only thing is I have a round face and short fingers.  With a deep hook and a tab I anchor thumb knuckle behind jaw and index under cheek bone.  I went to this after a lot of trouble with hitting my lip with the string or having my hand fly out on release due to not getting back all the way with my arm with a more forward head position.  With 3 under that puts the arrow nock at my eye.  That seems like it could be a bad idea.  Also the arrow goes only down from there so everything is a hold over, and I am real conscious of the arrow.  I am trying to find a better anchor, but not having much luck.  I am thinking about going to a glove for the extra finger material to maybe get to my mouth or something lower.  Anyone have a suggestion for an anchor?

I changed to 3 under this year and use my thumb nuckle touching my ear lobe and the cock feather touching my nose.  I draw straight back until the thumb nuckle is in place then ease my nose into the string until I touch the feather.  It extended my draw length by an inch and it really helped my alignment.  I find it very hard to pluck the string with this anchor.  My form is much more consistent now than when I shot split finger.  Hope this helps.

Where does the nock end up for you?  For me that would be right at my eye with cock feather out.  I worry a little about what would happen with a broken nock or an arrow falling off the string.  I will rotate the feathers some to raise the nose contact point and give it a try.  Thanks.
