Title: Bow slap with 3 under
Post by: Rebel Bowhunter on March 23, 2010, 03:08:00 PM
I just tried 3 under, much better groups.  My bow has a loud slap on bottom limb.  I havn't had time to paper tune it for new nock set.  It may be just my release or is 3 under just noisy.  On my way to try for A turkey.

Did the string hit your forearm? Try a little more cant on the bow.

Ipcjon2, thanks for the advice I'll try that. No I don't hit my arm. Let 2 turkeys get by me this evening. Set Double Bull up didn't put netting on, befor I could set up in blind Gobbler walked up to decoy he saw movement in blind circle around decoy out of my range.  Went up swamp called him back, still wouldn't come into range called him back the 3rd time did the same. Didn;t fool with him anymore let him go.  I  ease out of blind to pick decoy up, as I bent down saw something to my left another Gobbler.  So tomorrow morning I have 2 to work with.

3 under can be a little noisier on some bows. It's not universal but it definitely happens.  If it doesn't stop when you get a chance to really test your nock set placement, try Hush Puppies - they should quiet it right down.

Good luck on those two turkeys.

Tanks dragon rider, I try that when Turkey season slows down. Took my recurve this morning missed 2 shoots, going back this afternoon.  The more shoots I get, hope "Blind Sow finds A Acorn"

Good luck with those turkeys. I have not noticed any of my bows being louder since I went to three under. Do hit my forearm once in a while but not much.

My bow was quite a bit louder when I went to 3 under.

I moved the nock point up until it quietened down as much as it was going to,but it's still a little louder than with split.

I'm not bothered about it though,it's not real loud and neither of the two deer I've shot with 3 under reacted badly to it,,,well not bad for me that is.

I agree with dragon rider . I had to go to 11/16s nock set to get good flight. I like to papper tune all my bows. Give it a honest try you will like it.
