I place the string in the 1st joint of my fingers which I thought was a deep hook (when I first started shooting stickbows I shot off my fingertips). What is the "universal" idea of a deep hook. I thought it was around the first joint but I've heard of people shooting between the 1st-2nd joint, and some putting the string on the second joint. I know everyone is different just curious what the consensus would be.

I also shot of my fingertips when I first started but now have moved to the first joint. For me that is a deep hook, for others it may not be. I seem to shoot better with the deeper hook. Paul<><

Same for me too, I actually grab just barely past the first joint so the string rolls into my joint.

Thanks, I do basically the same thing. It's funny how when I started the fingertips where the craze and what a difference it now makes to take a deeper hook.
thnks again

Guys, I am VERY glad I read this post. I just started shooting a recurve 6-8 weeks ago and I am starting to develop some serious calluses on my shooting finger tips. I guess you could say I have a shallow hook-- :) So you guys hook at your first joint?
-
yes even just a scooch past . but not required.
-
I guess I go just a scooch past knuckle because I don't trust it will rotate into the bow if I don't feel it rotating.

Well I used a "deep hook" tonight and was pleasantly surprised. I shot better than ever. My eyes felt closer to the bowstring and I was able to gain another "anchor" with my nose on the cock feather. It seemed to tighten my groups. I am excited to keep practicing with the deep hook to see if I can improve. THANK you gentlemen.
