Title: Shooting to the right?
Post by: Bigkid on October 19, 2010, 08:44:00 AM
All my arrows end up on the right side of the target. I am a right handed shooter, Shooting diffrent bows. I am grouping them well from 10-18 yards but always to the right of my intended target. I have Bare shafted the arrows. the arrows fly straight. no Spline issues.

I have struggled with this for a couple of years now and can't seem to Break it no matter what I do.
Sure I can get the arrows to hit the center by adjusting my aim point to the left. If I concentrate on the DOT I will shoot right on the Right side of it.

What am I doing that causes this?

Bigkid,  If you came to me with that problem, the first thing I'd look at is your bow hand position.  The center of the bow grip must lay on a line drawn from the web between the thumb and first finger to the "pulse point" on your wrist.  That puts the center of pressure on the meaty part of the base of your thumb.  the base thumb knuckle will be JUST BARELY to the right of the center line of the bow -- not around the grip farther to the right.

The second thing that I'd look at is the bow arm movement when you release.  Many shooters allow that whole arm to move sharply to the right upon release.  Your bow hand/arm should move toward the target and LEFT slightly after the release.  Back tension does this!!  If you are shooting good groups as you say and if your equipment is correct, these are the two areas that most cause a torque that causes right hits for a right handed shooter.

I don't know where you guys keep coming up with the word SPLINE,  the word is SPINE!

Here is a picture of my group at 15 Yards,
I had just set these arrows up.
Little High but they grouped well

I am thinking that you may be dead on with the grip problem. It don't always happen but it happens enough to Bother me. I am conscious about my movement at the shoot and that will pull the arrows to the Left. I know when that happens.

  UPDATE
I went out and flung a few this morning, the Grip made a tremendous Improvement.    :clapper:
I was Nailing where I was looking at without having to compensate. After 3 years of Shooting Wrong and now going back to correct it is going to take some Hard work paying attention to the Grip instead of what usually felt natural.

Thank you so much
