when i act like im drawing my bow (without bow in hand) i can get total back tension elbow aligns perfectly and really can feel it when i put bow in hand and draw i cant get my elbow to align it always sticks out and i dont get anywhere close to the same feeling in my back any thoughts why i cant do this when actually drawing a bow?  :dunno:

What's your draw weight? I found it harder to achieve/feel back tension til I switched to a lighter bow. Once I knew what I was looking for it became easy to reproduce on the heavier hunting weight bows.

Just a thought, I'm DEFINATELY NOT an expert.....

Get a really light bow in the 30# range.  That is heavy enough to work your back and shoulders but it is light enough to let you concentrate on drawing, anchoring, aiming, release, and follow through.  Bill

I had a similar problem, I shoot split finger and if I anchor to the corner of my mouth my elbow does not line up either. If I continue to draw and anchor my thumb knuckle to the back of my jaw I get the correct alignment. I think the anchor is something that should be determined only after you achieve alignment.
