Title: torn up fletching
Post by: scout308 on December 16, 2010, 05:04:00 PM
Hey guys im new to traditional archery and wonder if someone can tell me whats up. I have a bear grizzly recurve 50# @ 28" with bear hair on the rest and the leather patch. problem im having is the bottom feather is getting shredded. is this normal wear or a setup up issue. i set my nock height using a bare shaft method. my brace height is 8.25" and my nock point is 1/2" above my rest.

Try paper tuning (see the Elite Arrows website for instructions). My guess is that your nock is low by 1/16" to 1/8" or so. It could also be that your arrows are too stiff. paper tuning will help work out those details.

My bows are all tuned well, my bottom feathers still shows wear after enough shooting. Its part of the game for me, thats why I bought Bitz. How long before you notice significant wear on a new feather?

I had a similar problem and found out that my arrows were too stiff.  Went to a weaker spine, and the wear stopped.

Nock seems a little low but the hen feather wear will occur naturally but should take hundreds of shots to show up.

I am nowhere near hundreds. Probably need to paper tune.

You might try turning the cock feather in rather than out...sometimes gives better feather clearance.
