I went to the Orthopedic Dr today. Looks like I will not have much mobility or strength in my ring finger after the surgery. My question to you is how long will it take me to get back to pulling my hunting lbs with 2 under instead of 3. I think it might be a good opportunity to relearn everything correctly. I am trying to make a positive out of the situation.
Thanks
Eric

Greetings Eric!
I believe that for most shooters holding 3 under that it is primarily the middle finger and the index finger that pull the majority of the bow weight - in that order. Often times - especially with shorter bows - the ring finger is the one that gets in the way - especially if a shooter complains about finger pinch....
With practice a 2 fingers under hold will probably give you a smoother release than 3 fingers under - especially if you are shooting a shorter limbed bow.
With quality practice, practice, practice - say 5000 to 10,000 shots - you will be shooting better holding 2 fingers under than you have ever shot before!
Merry Christmas!

I don't no what poundage your pulling.but I shoot two fingers under and most of my bows are 50 lb,and one is 54lb and I don't have any trouble.

You can do what ever you set your mind to. Three years ago I had to switch to left hand. Could not even pull back fifty pounds so I sat infront of the TV every night pulling the old bow back I bought. Now I can't even pull a right hand bow back and it feels wired. Good luck, you will be fine.

I shoot 2 under. It will take just a few sections of doing this and it will feel like you have been doing it all along..
When first starting take your time in between shots. As shooting time increases so will hold time..
Just to give you an idea, I started out at 35# and am now in the mid to uper 60s depending on bow and do not even notice it in the fingers..
Hope this helped.

Like Big Bird I shoot two under. While my from is split fringer the top finger is only resting berely on the string: mostly off of it.

Im with wheelie, if u set your mind to it anything is possible. I used to shoot left-handed, but i got tired of never being able to shoot anyone elses bows so i made the switch to righthanded. It was tough at first but now I'm better righthanded than i ever shot lefthanded.

I think you can do it. As mentioned above the ring finger holds the least amount of weight. It will just take some getting used to.
Good luck

You can do it, use your lighter poundage bow if you have and work up. Good luck

Well, it has been two weeks since the surgery. I am out of a hard cast and into a velcro splint. My finger are still swollen (my tab wont fit). I am probably going to order a trad tech pinnacle with cheap limbs. I am thinking around low 40's will help. I start physical therapy tomorrow.

Glad it worked for you guys, but it didnt work for me. I shoot 3 under, figured why not 2 under? I believe my release was cleaner, but I suffered tingling fingers for several weeks. Kinda that feeling you get when your arm falls asleep. I was using a bw tab that I simply cut the top off. Maybe the tab was to thin for 55lbs, or maybe I just shot to much. I did a search on here and I was not alone. You can do nerve damage and that feeling is a sign its happening. I went back to 3 under after a few days off of shooting. The pain went away. Hopefully you dont experience this ESP. Maybe the lighter bow will help you. Im looking to switch to left hand, due to eye dominance issues. PM me for info on the limbs you should get.
