Title: 1st Joint
Post by: Possum Head on January 08, 2011, 06:24:00 PM
No guys and gals it aint what one might think,I'm speaking of finger joints. This morning I read a post "Bowwild" made and thought never could I shoot with the string riding anywhere but on my finger tips.Boy was I wrong, after only a few groups I noticed much improvement. This was too consistant to be coincidental.Guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.Just curious how many out there in TRADLAND take the string to the joint verses tip?

1st joint for me.....

Less tension on the string, more control over the string, cleaner release, and the bow feels 5-8 pounds lighter....which means you can also shoot a heavier bow if you want.

Bowstring in my index and ring finger's first joint... the string will be about 1/2way between the 1st and 2nd joint on my middle finger... that is me.

1st joint for me as well. I also place all of my fingers on the string when drawing the bow. The little finger is barely on but it is on the string. I agree with Terry I get a very nice release this way. I notice the bow feels lighter as well when I draw the bow in this manner.

Never thought about it much, but I should its part of my overall form. Went too shoot tonight. 1st joint as well, feels the most comfortable and is smoother on release. Tried , just the tip's. Quite a difference.

I think 'cause of hand shape I end up with finger pads on my index and ring fingers but middle finger hooked to the first joint (split finger draw).

Personally I hook the string in following manner:

Index finger - in or just in front of 1st joint
Middle finger - just past 2nd joint
Ring Finger - Pad

That sounds interesting... may have to give that a try one day.

Before you try that I made a mistake, should be:

Middle Finger - just past the 1st joint (in between 1st and 2nd joint, but clser to the first).

When referring to 1st and 2nd joints are we starting at the hand or the finger tip?

Without referring to #'s, I shoot a deep hook with my middle finger and shallow with my pointer and ring finger....all 3 under!

From the finger tips.  Many refer to that first joint from the tips of the fingers as "the archer's groove."

Thanks Moebow! That's what I thought. Just seems as though some others are counting joints from the hand outwards??

In this case: I shoot 1st joint, 2nd joint, then 1st joint ....3 under! That makes the only deep hook the middle finger.

Index finger in the 1st joint
middle finger 1st joint
ring finger on the pad just in front of the 1st joint for some reason
