Im consistantly hitting 10-12" to the right and I can not figure out why ! My arrows are flying like lazers, both bare shaft and fleched arrows will group together at 20 yards and my bare shaft is sticking in the target perfectly straight. Im pretty sure its me but i cant figure out what im doing. Any ideas ?
-
Are you right or left handed?
-
Im right handed and right eye dominant.
-
How about some specs of your set-up. Also, are you anchoring properly or is your hand/fingers against your face? Specs first.
-
Try canting the bow less. That will move the arrow to the left. I had one bow that shot right for me, and I had to hold it vertically to get on target. I sold that bow.
-
If you are canting the bow, move the top limb tip a bit to the left. A little trial and error will get you on target...
i like to us a 1/2" black vertical line while doing this... start at 5 yards and move back as you get the feel 5 yards at a time.

The bow is 58" 51#@28,Split finger and canting about 1 o'clock.
Arrow is a 28.5" trad only 500 4x4" 22grn insert and 125grn FP.8 GPI weight tube. Arrow weight around 535
-
Also my middle finger is planted in the corner of my mouth and I pull the full 28".
-
Could it be that you are torqing your bow?
-
torqing is possible ! What to do ?
-
I'd want a bit more FOC than that (I generally shoot for 18%-20%) but that isn't the reason you're shooting right.. That shaft might be a little weak but I'm not sure how the actually spine when tested...
I'd work on the cant...
-
I shoot with index and thumb around bow and all others on center line. Sometimes bottom three dont touch at all.
-
I have the same issue from time to time. Nearly the same specs as you do. I believe my prob is that I'm collapsing upon release, and plucking the string.
Might be happening to you too?
Good luck,
Brian

What exactly is collapsing ?
-
Get someone to watch you shoot, paying special attention to your arrow point... if you are collasping the point will start forward before you loose it... Generally this is from not using back tension...
-
i do know if my hand flys out to the right from my face instead of straight back when i release i tend to shoot several inches to the right...
-
Rob,
I gripped my bow exactly like you described for a number of years. My shooting was too on-again, off-again. I went to gripping my handle so that all my fingers make contact with it. I found that this grip controls the bow more consistently for me. It seemed that with just a thumb and index finger grip, at least for me, the bow had too much of an opportunity to torque or "float".
Try it. It may help.
Tom.

Sounds like you need to build up your pad on your riser and make it thicker, to me....
-
Most of the problems shooters have usually don't get solved when shooting at 20yds..
I suggest shooting at 10 feet then you'll be able to see what adjustments you may need to make ...
If your bow is cut to center, then most likely its your form or lack of, that needs work..
It could be a foot placement issue.. Try stepping forward with your right foot..
Just a quarter step could bring your arrows over to the left 4-6" or more..
A half step forward with the right foot could bring you over to the left 10-12"..
If you're slightly off balance it could throw your arrows off...
So changing your stance could be the solution...
-
I disagree with the cant of the bow being the problem. An archer should be able to cant the bow at any angle and still shoot accurately. Doing this would only cause somebody to just cover up the real problem.
-
Your arrows should be hitting a little closer than 12" even if they are a tad out of tune. I would try a stiffer arrow to see if it moves you over some. I would also try to pad out the side plate as well. But before you do that, get someone to watch your release. Alot can be told by someone just watching you.
And by all means get closer to the target. Get your set-up together before trying to shhot at a distance. The farther you go back the more your form is critical. Give us an update.
-
Are you allowing your bow arm to move right as you release? Movement normally happens at the shoulder, with a dynamic release.
-
The most common form of collapsing is allowing the shoulder of your bow arm to relax at the time of release. the bow arm must continue to push the bow toward the target untill the arrow reaches it's destination. Very common problem especially when you begin to tire.

I find that I sometime shoot right if I lean my head too far right. I don't look at my arrow shaft to aim, but I do have it in my peripheral vision and use it for left/right alignment when shooting - maybe that's some kind of aiming, but.... If I lean my head to far right, then my right eye is no longer over the shaft which causes me to move the bow further right to think I'm on target. When this happens to me, I stop canting the bow temporarily and shoot more upright. then little by little, start canting and leaning my head again.

Thanks for all the good info guys ! I will take all the sugestions into consideration and surly get this resolved.

Like some have already said, "Move up closer to the target" at least untill you figure out what your doing wrong.
That is if your doing something wrong. You may need to adjust your fire a little bit from further back.
Its really hard to say without seeing you shoot some.

Take a practice shot with your index finger just barely touching the string.
