I just discovered that I am RH but I left eye dominate. I shoot fine or at least I thought. Any suggestions

I'm exactly opposite... switch hands I did and have never regretted it a moment..

Ignore it. If your are shooting fine why mess with things?
I'd be curious and try a left-handed bow just to see what it was like, though.

twin, I don't know how long you've been shooting but... Archery is a hand eye coordination sport, not a dexterity sport. That is your ability to do fine motor skills like writing has little to do with shooting a bow. Many folks shoot well with the dominate eye on one side and their "handedness" on the other. I think, though, that you improve your odds of being a good shooter by shooting on the side of your dominate eye. FWIW.

Every knowledgeable instructor I know recommends shooting with the same hand as your dominant eye. Having said that one of the best shots I know is left eye dominant and shoots right handed.

Glen St. Charles said "When shooting instinctivly it matters not which eye is dominant." He was cross dominate. I'd say things worked out ok for him. I myself am cross dominate but also ambadextrious.

As an archery coach and being cross dominate myself, I can attest to the fact that one can shoot instinctively with the non-dominate eye. Even if you want to gap shoot you will find it difficult but not undoable.
However, if one will only stop and think about it for a moment those of us who are cross dominate have a distinct advantage when we make the switch….. We get to hold the bow with our strong arm while the more normal archer is using their weak arm to hold the bow.
As I said earlier, I changed over at the suggestion of my coach in my early teens and I’ve never regretted it for a single moment..

I'm in the same boat, RH but Left eye dominant. I shoot targets just fine RH but bad things happen in hunting situations.......I made the switch to LH a while back in hopes of adding a little more consistency to my shooting in ALL situations. The hard part isn't the act of shooting the bow, but all of the "little things" like picking up and nocking the arrow. I say try it, you could always switch back plus it's kind of cool to be able to shoot from both sides :-)

I started shooting left handed mainly because I injured my rt shoulder and couldnt draw my rt handed bow to anchor.I'm left eye dom and shot rt handed for yrs and didnt see the need to switch since I as shootin 250's on league nite and 260's in practice on the 300 indoor round.Never really had much trouble hitting what I shot at cross dom so I stuck it out that way.
Ok now that the switch was kinda forced I gotta say it wasnt as hard as I thought and I fully expect to become a better shot than I was.If your serious about trying a switch I'd say to spend some time up real close with no target to get a good feel for the change.You in theroy don't have any bad habits yet left handed so get your shot down before tring to hit anything...if you can shoot you will be able to hit!

I fixed the issue by learning to shoot both ways. Just because you switch does not mean you should stop shooting the other way.

i started out lh because im l.e.d but switched to rh after damageing my neck in a car accident ( i`d been shooting lh about 10 years at the time ) i just closed my left eye at first to stop me shooting left all the time its just not an issue now though ( after 17 years ) i shoot 3d all the time & hunt when i can , it dosen`t affect my shooting ,

I sm the opposite - LH and R.E.D., and I currently shoot both LH and RH. I do not see a noticeable difference in accuracy shooting instintively. Now this might be due to the fact that I am relatively new to the sport.
Having said that, I have my sessions where I am really good and those where I am just OK. But this variation happens regadless of what "hand" I am shooting.
Like some have said, if you get a chance; try some LH shooting and find out for yourself how much of a difference it makes for you.

I am RH but LE dominant......make the switch.
Made it myself a couple of years ago and it was the best thing I have done as it relates to my shooting.
When I was shooting RH I had to shoot some sort of "gap shooting" because if all I did was look at the arrow it went WAY right.

I too am RH, but left eye dominant. I was asked when I bought my first bow 25 years ago which eye was dominant. I have been shooting left hand ever since. Never shot a right handed bow. Dont know if this helps you or not, all I can suggest is give it a try.

I'm pretty sure Jay Kidwell is actually responsible for that quote. He doesn't mind you confusing him with Glen St. Charles, however, Mr. St. Charles might not have liked it. The mind is a funny thing and I know where the misinformation came from moose eye levi. Someone put that quote in their signature and credited Jay Kidwell along with other info including Glen St. Charles. Honest mistake...
As for the eye dominance issue, if you shoot instinctively it does not matter which eye is dominant. If you shoot using the gap method or a similar aiming method you would probably be better off switching sides if possible. I shoot right handed and I'm led. Never bothered me.

Say I was watching my FRed Bear videos the other day and noticed that Fred sharpen his Rasorsheads righted handed. So was he right handed LED? I too am LED, just started shooting a left handed bow, it's amazing how quick it starts comming together. i'm going to try and shoot both ways, but aim with the arrow tip right handed, and try instinctive left handed. Hopfully without confusing my brain anymore than it already is!
