Title: Split finger or three under difference
Post by: FrankM on April 13, 2011, 12:49:00 AM
It seems that when I try three fingers under, the arrow leaves cleaner. Is there anything to three fingers under that makes it more clean than the split finger method?  Maybe it's just me. LOL.

personally i feel its cleaner cause the fingers are more apt to release at the same time with equal pressure. but i could be wrong

The index finger can press down on the nock when using split fingers, which is not a problem with 3 under.

I have to agree every time I teach someone new to shoot I start them three under because it gives a much cleaner release.

I started doing split finger as a kid, and resist changing. I wonder where I picked it up? Maybe some old cowboy and indian movies. LOL.

I shoot split myself but I have shot that way my entire life and from time to time I might get a not so great release lol.

I started out shooting split then changed to 3 under. It gives a much smoother release for me.The only time I use split now is when I'm just goofing around shooting with a reverse cant

Split finger can lead to some degree of finger pinch especially on short bows or for folks with long draws.  The more finger pinch the tougher it is to get a clean release.  Three under style can avoid much of this tendency, but it's no guarantee of a perfect release.  You have to be doing your best with back tension, no collapse, etc.

Ive tried the three finger under and just dont feel any where near right for me. I feel best with two finger spilt. Dont know why, but started shooting wheel bows back in the day before release aids that way. Then of coarse switched to a release aid. And now that I am trying traditional it just seems natural to me with the two split.

Aha!  I just got Masters of the Barebow 1,2,3 Friday and watched all three in one day.  Immediately I'm getting better split finger results. Just now I watched all of the videos listed on this forum that people send in and get critiques. What I learned is consistent with the comments in the video thread. Since I'm used to split finger, I'll do that for now and only go to three under if I feel the need "after" I've practiced more.
