I was raised shooting 2finger below the arrow but have noticed photos with all 3. Is it just a preference or for longbows or shorter amo or again just a preference?thanks merle

Use of three fingers tends to lessen the string pressure by spreading the force over a larger area. If you can handle the bow weight you're currently shooting comfortably with two fingers I don't see a reason to change. Yes, you'll probably see more folks shooting with three, but if two works for you, great.

Thanks George.

Iam fairly new to this trad. shooting and I find it most comfortable to me to shoot two fingers split.

Using three fingers can lead to torquing with the bottom finger for some shooters. I prefer two finger split.

I was actually going to start a thread regarding this...
After initially shooting 3 split I switched to 3 under and saw considerable improvement. Just tonight (after reading another thread here) I tried 2 under and I'm LOVING IT!!!
With 2 under I feel like I'm lining everything up better, I'm getting a quicker, more consistent anchor, a cleaner release and less torque. For me it just seems to fit. I only wish I had tried it sooner.
I tried 2 split also, but as with 3 split I get alot of pinch and can't line up the shot and my anchor. That's just me.
Now I'm gonna go ice my middle finger...pretty numb right now.
