When I was a child I was taught to use the cock feather as an anchor for shooting. I place the feather right in the corner of my mouth, and my index finger knuckle on my outer jaw bone. This works somewhat well, but after seeing some of the talk on here I am understanding that I might be short drawing. Does anyone shoot the same way? I am having a hard time working on my form because the good men that taught me how to shoot are now either passed away or retired from the sport.

I shoot 3under and use the cock feather on my nose as a second anchor point. My first anchor point is thumb knuckle behind the jawbone and then feather to nose.It works real well.I do not release until the feather is touching my nose.It has helped alot with my target panic and shortdrawing also.

It would be good for you to know the feeling of drawing the bow to full draw, exclusive of where your present anchor might be, and then establish an anchor that works for you at full draw.
As you draw the bow, you should be contracting your back muscles, such that your string-side shoulder blade moves toward your backbone. This results in your string elbow moving more in an arc than straight back. When your shoulder blade has moved toward your backbone as much as it can, your drawing forearm should line up with the arrow, viewed from above. You should be in the allignment shown in Terry's form clock, which is illustrated in a permanent post at the top of this forum.
When you are in this position, you may find that your current anchor works, or you many need to find a new anchor point.
