Is there anyone in Clarksville, Tn.(or close by),who would donate an hour or so of thier time with me.I would buy the beer or coffee or both.Just need a little one on one help. All I want is "minute of deer" at 10-20 yards.I would like to be ready for the 2012 bow season.Sometimes it's hard to teach yourself something you know nothing about.Plus-please feel free to move this,if posted in the wrong area. Thanks to all.

Man I wish I was closer buddy.
I have self taught myself over the past 8 months, and learned a LOT from this site.
I started out at about 5 yards and went from there.
If you give me your address I will send you a book by Anthony Camera called "Shooting the Stickbow".
Gave me a real good foundation to learn from.

Will, Great that you are asking for help early. I was self taught and did everything worng for 40 yrs. Guys like Moebow, Green etc. help out a LOT. Great people on this site. I'm sure someone will step up. Also check out some 3D shoots, or archery shop in your area.
-
Will, just like Frank I shot trad for over 40 years before learning proper form via the generosity and expertise of Moebow and several other TG members. If you'll PM me your email I'll send you something you might find interesting and helpful.

Will, this is an organization that claims to be in Clarksville, Tn. I wished that I were closer but live over here in the northeast corner of the state. PM me and let me know if I can help. Chuck

Will you should be in luck.I visited Twin Oaks Bow hunting club for the first time earlier in the summer for an event and I actually stayed in Clarksville. In fact it seems it took me 15 minutes or less from the motel I stayed in to get out to the club.Great facility and wonderful people there.I am sure there are several people very close to you in that area that would be willing to help you out.
-
Junglecat,I am familiar with and know where Twin Oaks is located.I did not know that they might offer such help.Might be a good idea to look into.BTW-I grew up in Harlan Co.Still have family there.Like to visit the London flea market on occasion. My dad was from Corbin, all his kin are still there I reckon.

The two hardest things for me were trying to learn to shoot w/o a mentor, and trying to learn to shoot while over-bowed. If you have to do the former, for goodness sakes avoid the latter. Best of Luck!

You may try to get in touch with Jimmy Blackmon. I "think" he lives close by, and he's a great shot and a great fellow too. He just won the IBO Worlds. He goes by the handle Ranger B on most of the forums, like, AT, POA, TT, and LW.
-
GreyGoose,I currently have a Ben Pearson Equalizer at 45 lbs,and a self made long bow at 65 lbs.I do have plans in the future to by a Martin Mamba at 50 lbs.
-
Jimmy is from my Home Town and now lives in Clarksville I believe.
-
I found his(Blackmon) name in the phone book.Is it ethical/appropriate to call?
-
Absolutely! He's a great guy. I feel certain he'd be more than happy to assist a fellow archer and make a new friend.

I made contact with Jimmy last week.We talked on the phone for quite a while. We then made arrangments to meet at Twin Oaks Saturday afternoon. He spent a solid 2 hours with me.It would appear, there is a lot more to drawing a bow and shooting an arrow than meets the eye.But thanks to Jimmy I now have a fairly decent idea of what to do.All I have to do,is do it.I really appreciate the help and advise. Thanks Jim,you're good people!
