The first bow I ever shot was a compound last year,not too bad a shot but never felt comfortable with worrying about the pins and sight and level and wall and a million other things.
a couple weeks ago I made my first bow and have a decent 6"-10" group at 20yds. Got my second bow ready for final tiller and 5 arrows ready for fletchings.
Well a buddy from church gave me a hoyt compound a couple days ago and i shot it this morning, had about a 2 FOOT group at 20yds, about 1 FOOT to the right.
At lunch just now i sent about 25 arrows, no release and without using the sight, just trad style if you will,
Well dadgum if I didn't just shoot 6" group center target with only a stray here and there!!!
I'm done with mechanicals and gadgets!!

Familiar story. Some people feel comfy with all the gadgets but some of us find them a distraction. I find I spend more time aiming than taking notice of what I am shooting at. Barebow for me too :)

It's great you're shooting well with a barebow- Thing is, form is form no matter what kind of bow, and the results you describe with the wheel bow indicate something else is going on. Whether you use them or not, the reality is "mechanicals and gadgets" enable better accuracy at longer distances. A simple sight on a recurve can be a great diagnostic tool for form problems as well, because it takes aiming method out of the equation.

I have shot both compounds and recurves for many years. I started with a recurve at age 14 shooting instinctively for years and enjoyed great results even taking small game.
Then the compound eveloution came and I 'upgraded' when I began to shoot indoor archery leagues and 3D outdoor shoots. I have had about every bow there was as far as a compound bow - and while they are great if that 'sort of thing' is your bag - I always missed and loved shooting instinctively - for the no-fuss method it involves, my recurve being lighter in weight w/o all that stuff 'bolted' onto it!
'Going back' to shooting my recurve again - as Asbell states in his book - shooting has become FUN again and enjoyable. No messing with sight pins, peeps, arrow rests, and 'Perfectly executed blast-offs" as Asbell states - traditional and instinctive is so much easier and less cluttered to me. It's all I shoot now and love it and can't see myself ever going back to a compound again, sights, etc. I no longer need to worry about releases, pins, bolt on this and that - and just SHOOT! And it's FUN again and I love it!
