Man I do love my HH Big five...I've always shot split ala Mr. Hill, etc. However I've always been a mediocre shot at best too. For some reason this past week I tried 3 under to just to see and man what a difference in accuracy...on the order of shrinking 10 inches groups on average at 20 yards down to about 6 inches.
But I feel so guilty now. Silly I know, but are there any other 3 under Hill longbow shooters out there?
Shoot if I stick to this 3 under thing I may even have to try a bow quiver :)
-
I shoot all styles 3 under,includeing Hills.
-
Absolutely. My current three Hills are all tillered for three-under shooting. I am absolutely guilt-free. I love Hill bows, but don't believe that I must have Hill's or Schultz's style to shoot them - I just can't do what they do; I have to shoot my way. I wish I could do what they do, but I can't. And, although I've used a back quiver plenty, I am lately using a bow quiver.

I'm the same as Ben. I started split and soooo... badly wanted to shoot the canted bow, split finger, smooth flowing style of Hill, Steve Fausel, Terry and others, but in the end I've realized that I just plain shoot better with a vertical bow and 3-under. (The guilt part goes away the more animals you take with the new style!)
-
I shoot all my bows 3 under also but I shoot better with more of a cant than straight up .
-
I'm sorry guys. Apparently you forgot to read the fine print in your Hill paperwork. :readit:
If I remember correctly it states that if you find that you can only shoot the bow 3 under, you should immediately give the bow to a split finger shooter like me. :saywhat: At least I think that's what it says. :biglaugh:

Whew! I feel better already..kinda like a 12 step program.
Even split finger I shoot very much like Mike and with 3 under I just shoot so much better.
That's funny stuff Gerald  My little brother lives on the border of Georgia just a hop skip and a jump away from NC. I'll have to be careful when I wander around the woods there. Wouldn't want to run in a fine print enforcer :)
Seriously - Thanks! for everyones insights and taking the time to share. That's what I love about all my fellow Tradgangers.

My hill is tillered for 3 under as well. Shoot what works for you!!!
-
I also shoot with a cant.

SteveL, glad you took it in the spirit it was intended. What part of north Georgia is your brother in? I travel through Clayton, Dahlonaga, Toccoa and Gainesville fairly regularly on business. Also used to trout fish the Nantahala and Tuckaseegee quite a bit. Next time you come to visit, let me know and maybe we can get together to shoot.

Hi Gerald, he lives in Mount Airy and we also go into Clayton, Toccoa and Gainsville, etc when where out goofing off. I know he has fished the Tuckaseegee, not sure on the Nantahala. It be great to hook up next time I'm out. I could probably use some lessons anyway.

Sounds good SteveL. Shoot me a pm sometime and we can set it up. I'm the one looking for lessons. Gerald

I think IBO Longbow champ, David Wallace, shoots his HH style bows three fingers under.
I've achieved greater accuracy shooting my HH style bows three under, but I've achieved greater fun and satisfaction shooting them in the HH, Schulz, free-flowing hunting style. Go figure :)
I like what Ron LaClair has said before about using different techniques, with his main goal being the hitting of his intended target :) Amen!

Nothing to feel guilty about if it makes you more accurate. More fun. Clean kills. Nothing but good.....
Rob.
