I'm a newbie trad shooter of about 4 weeks. I shoot every night in my garage back to about 15 yards. The last few days I have been hitting my nose with the string on occation. Other than stinging pretty good, my POI is different. Anybody got any idea on what would be causing this. At first I was just going to chalk it up to a rookie thing, but I want to make sure I don't make it a habit.

Generally this can be solved by turning your head more in the direction of the target. Your shoulders should be perpendicular to the target, as shown in Terry's clock elsewhere on this forum, and your head should be rotated at least far enough toward facing the target that the string doesn't hit your nose. Your head should be in an upright position; if your head starts drooping forward, it can also cause the problem. If you are also getting left hits at the same time the string is hitting your nose, it could be that you are releasing the arrow before you come to full draw, so that the arrow is pointed slightly to the left rather than straight at the target. Since the arrow is pointing slightly to the left, the string also is travelling in that direction, which could cause it to hit your nose.
I have also had shooting gloves that seem to direct the string into my nose, regardless of how I shoot, and of course I have gotten rid of those. I assume this isn't your problem since it has only happened in the last few days.
The string should travel very close to your nose, and it doesn't take much deflection to make it skim your nose rather than missing it. Some very good shooters have been known to wear a patch of tape on their noses to avoid this problem, but it would be better to avoid it entirely, if you can.

Do you by any chance use the odd feather to your nose as an extra anchor ?

I know if I overdraw I seem to turn my head, which in turn my nose gets stung!

This could be what I was doing. My arrows are cut 29 1/4" and my draw is between 27 1/2" & 28". I noticed today after shooting for awhile the draw wieght felt heavy, on the shot I clipped my nose. On the next draw I watched the point of the arrow to see how far I was drawing. I pulled the bow till the wieght felt the same as before and looked and only had 1/2" clearance between tip and riser so hopefully that is what it was. It never happens on my first 15 or 20 shots and then it only happens from time to time. Not a big deal I guess. It will go away with time and practice.

Are you canting your bow when you shoot?
A slight cant may alleviate this problem as well.

Yeah, I cant my bow. I was also hitting my arm guard on almost every shot. I opened up my torso alittle and I no longer hit my arm and I seem to have quit hitting my nose. I think maybe I was shooting across my body to much, and trying to draw the bow to far. I'm drawing about 1/2" shorter now but everything feels more comfortable, and most important I'm hitting where I'm looking and more consistant.

GOOD TO HEAR THINGS ARE IMPROVING!ONE THING I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW WHETHER YOU ARE SHOOTING A TAB OR GLOVE?IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT THIS HAPPENS ON OCASSION WHEN USING A TAB.MY THEORY IS A DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY THE STRING DEFLECTS AWAY FROM THE TAB VS A GLOVE.REGARDLESS IT IS IMPORTANT TO CORRECT IT BECAUSE EVEN A SLIGHT STING OR DISCOMFORT WHEN SHOOTING CAN LEAD TO ALL SORTS OF SHOOTING ISSUES.

I shoot a glove, and this still happens from time to time.
