Title: Practice video
Post by: Ranger B on November 27, 2011, 10:57:00 PM
There are several threads about one thing that has helped most, bow arm, release etc.  I videoed my practice today to critique my form and thought I'd share it.  This will also give my answer to a few of the other threads.  Last year I tried to really focus on form.  The one area that I put the most time into was bow arm.  A friend convinced me that if I could master one thing it should be my bow arm.  I played with all sorts of grips to find the one that absolutely kept me from interfering with the bow.  For me it was to tuck all fingers and let the bow jump to target.  It made a tremendous impact on my shooting.  Of course it required me to use a wrist or finger sling.  I even hunt with them because I have engrained this into my shooting to the point now that I will drop the bow if I don't have it on.
Now I'm working on release.  I am pretty good on bale but on target sometimes I straighten the fingers on release.  I am going to work a lot on that this winter.  I hope this video is helpful.

Really great form Jimmy.  Congrats on your IBO World win by the way.  Lots of great info in your YT videos....thanks for posting those.

I spent some time with Javi a couple of months back and the first thing (of many) he had me change was to alter my grip to one similar to yours except I lay the index/middle finger on the back of the bow.....very lightly to prevent the jump out.  I definitely noticed a much more stable bow arm once the torque on the bow was removed.

I agree Jimmy, the more basic the bow the harder and more critcal having that Bowarm control needs to be.

Sombody gave me some footage of me shooting IFAA worlds in Germany, I was really pleased with Bowarm contol under tourney pressure, that second half of the course I shot 200 points, don't ask about first half lol   :)

Always great videos, great to see your still on top form.

Some of us are less perfect than others.

Your form appears to be approaching perfection.

Thank you for sharing. I use a similar grip, however with the index finger gapped around the back of the bow.

I will be referencing this video quite often in the future. One variation in your bow arm which is minor in comparison to mine is that the initial bow arm movement at release is not always directly towards the target. My best shots are generated when my bow arm moves as in your very last shot sequence. Still working hard to instill this as the norm rather than a random occurrence.

Excellent demonstration and thanks much for sharing! The bar you have set is quite high so I will be shooting from a stool for quite some time.
