I would like to know what you all think of my bow arm. It is NOT locked!! It is "broken" just prior to locked. This feels more relaxed than a straight as possible arm. But I worry that it is unwise to bend the bow arm. Hope these pics come out correct sized.....really really sorry if not.
P.s. Judge the whole pic if you like. The more I know, the better.

RH, Your grip looks Ok from this angle, it appears that the center of pressure from the grip is on the base of your thumb -- carrying on the "Grip Question" thread question you posted.
I like to coach a straight BUT NOT locked bow arm. I looks to me that the bend you have is pushing your bow shoulder up a little (see how rounded it looks?) Much of this depends on your "structure" and this may be correct for you. Hard to tell without seeing more.

Thanks for answering the bow grip question while you were at it. I was curious about that due to recent reading. I tried both methods a light grip spread along the thumb base seems more stable for me.
But as for the shoulder being pushed up....any ideas as to how to :correct this?" Its dark out so no practice shooting right now lol.

also does that seem to be an excessive bent bow arm?

Baring a reason you can't straighten that arm more, a straighter arm will help reduce that angle your upper arm goes into your shoulder. Right now it LOOKs as though that upper arm is pushing your shoulder up. With a straighter arm, you will have better bone on bone alignment of your arm and from there straight back into your shoulder. This can/will be stronger and you won't have to work your bow arm triceps as hard.

The only issue I have when I force the bow arm out more is I feel alot of strain in the bend of my arm. I assume it is due to lack of usage of that area.
otherwise no actual reason for the bow arm not being straighter.

That is a nice grip and bow arm for a Hill longbow.
-
hahaha. thanks pavan....but that is an odd looking hill bow. LOL.
-
You could get some added draw length out of a bit straighter bow arm also.
-
Looks like mobow said....bow arm elbow is down a bit more than 'out'.....causing tension in your shoulder.
I shoot locked...but I also have a bow arm built for shooting....it wont straighten out straight even though its locked....I'd like to see more of a parallel bow arm whether locked or not.
I'd also like to see a video...from that angle of the pic and from the rear overhead.

Terry I unfortunately spend any loose change on archery tackle and dont have a camera that will record lol. And my cell only takes pics haha.
But today (friday) I went to the range and competed with 3 wheel bow shooter friends. Iwas grouping tight.
I starting straightening the arm more and more and pausing to verify a positive anchor. Working very well so far! We set up a pop bottle on the target and had a contest as to who would hit it first.....Trad guy won!! LOL
Thanks to everyone for the help. I finally started practicing 7-10 yrds, eyes closed, and focusing on form.

Because of the slope of a recurve grip, bending your arm that much can give a less than advantageous contact to the bow. When I shoot Hill style bows my arm is naturally bent a bit, because of the straight grip and they like to be healed more. However, it feels more natural and more in control to be straighter armed when shooting my recurves with the pistol grips.
