Title: Left and right consistency
Post by: Ulysseys on January 15, 2012, 04:24:00 PM
Wondering if anybody has had experience with relative left and right consistency when shooting a longbow.  I recently switched from a recurve and noticed my elevation is usually spot on but when I stray it tends to be left or right.  I shoot 3 under and anchor high keeping the alignment of the shaft in my periphery so I would think left and right should be the most consistent for me...but it's not.  My arrows bareshaft slightly stiff but nothing crazy.  Is it longbow related?  Any thoughts?

You may be over bowed. Are you steady at release or maybe drifting. Try drawing (at a blank target) and when you hit anchor release.dont try and hold it at anchor.See what happens.

Oh and did you ever find the deer you hit?

When this starts happening to me I tighten my grip a little and that solves my problem.

If I start shooting L or R, I'll take a strip of 1" wide tape, painters tape or whatever I have layin around and put a piece vertically on my bag target and shoot to hit the tape. I dont care so much about high or low, a long as the windage is the focus of a practice session.

I find for me, if I'm missing L or R, plucking on release, or not holding the bow still is usually the culprit. Although back tension can mess me up too.

Do the tape drill until you're hitting or darn close to it every shot.

I feel like its my release...not my fingers but my bow holding hand - the tape is a decent idea.

Usually a LB is lighter ( mass weight ), it is for me. I have to concentrate more on holding spot on and not let the bow move until the shot is exercuted.
