Hello all,

I was wondering if anybody has read David Miller's book on "Shooting the American Semi-longbow"?If so, did it help shooting?

Never heard of is.....or the term 'semi-longbow'....I assume that means 'hybrid'?

I have David's book and it is pretty good when it comes to the Hill /Schultz style of shooting and correlates well with the Schultz video " Hittin' 'em Like Howard Hill."  It is short and concise.

Terry,  "American Semi-Longbow" is Miller's name for the Hill style bows that he makes.

David sent me one about a month before he finished my Expedition. Very informative. Not only in shooting but in arrow, quiver building. I picked up a few tips that actually helped in my shooting.  Although Schulz does give more personal anecdotes, Millers is more informative. I have both books and have seen John's video many times. If I could only have one, it would be David's.

Ric O, could you send or post pics of your Expedition please.  I am looking for a traditional Howard Hill style longbow.

This is a pretty good book for content, but it needs to be edited by a pro and reissued.  This is the same problem with a number of outdoor books - they are just not ready for publication.

Howard Hill started his career shooting and building English style Longbows and was tutored by one of Englands best bowyers. Influenced by a very important book  "Archery the technical side" written by Klopsteg and Hickman, Hill set out to build a better mousetrap.

Hill shortened the English Longbow, did away with the horn nocks and altered the cross section. This new cross section changed the bows tiller from "circular" to "elliptical".
Hence the  "American Semi-Longbow" was born.  H.Hill references his design in his book Hunting the Hard way.
