Title: Trouble
Post by: Scattergun2570 on September 04, 2012, 10:43:00 PM
About 6 weeks ago, I was shooting groups at 17yds that were so tight,I was replacing nocks. This wasn`t a once in a while thing,it was every time I shot. The last two times I shot, I am not anywhere near that accuracy,,and the flight of the arrow is terrible. The tail end of the arrow is whipping out way to the left, and impacting fairly straight on when it hits at 17yds. What generally makes the tail end stray so far left?

Something has changed in your form.  Release, bow hand, collapsing, etc.  You need to take a video and look at what you are doing and see if you can identify it.

Yup, something has changed. Without anything to compare or refer back to, it is very hard to make assumptions. If at all possible, another good idea, although very tedious for some, is to maintain a practice log with notes to refer back to. Log what is working for you as well as what is not.

For example yesterday during practice I was noticing flyers to the left on occasion. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I went back to the logs and notes and found the that same thing happened in the past and the culprit was that the string was making slight contact on my chest. The real problem was that I was shooting off my heals, the string contact was just the result of the problem, when I adjusted that, the problem vanished. But without my notes, I would have had to reinvent the wheel or make the discovery over again which could have been timely.

did your brace height lower due to string stretch....but if flying straight when hitting target that could be because fletching is helping it out.  Strip off the fletching and try it bareshaft...

might be torqueing string or plucking string on release....or with bow hand.  get back to basics and bare shaft a little to see if more pronounced.

Sounds like you're plucking. Video yourself to find out.

I agree with Arne and TG - video is best. Something to look at quickly, though, is what Brock and Ruff Hewn said - plucking.

I recently had the same symptoms as you and they were corrected by relaxing my string hand so the chance of plucking was reduced. RangerB has a video on this.
