I've been working on my form for several months now and would like to start shooting some targets. There is a 3-D shoot this weekend that I would like to attend but I'm afraid it may be too soon? I've shoot only a few practice sessions at known distance spot targets. Is it too early to try a 3-D round?

of course its not too early. depends on your wallet. I have been shooting very poorly lately so i break alot of arrows, but i still shoot 3d every week.

Go to the shoot but really try to keep your mind thinking about your form. Don't worry about the outcome. IF you can execute your form, the results will be there. BUT, IF you start thinking about your score, or the outcome, your form MIGHT break down. This is the next step in development -- learning to keep your mind on the form and NOT the game.

In addition to what Arne said, you may have to shoot more arrows than you're used to. Here in the west, we usually shoot about 84 arrows during the tournament, plus whatever you shoot warming up probably makes a total of about 100 arrows. My impression is that they shoot fewer arrows in east coast tournaments, but I don't know.
It would be nice if you could just shoot as long as you feel you're getting something out of it and then stop, but sometimes that can be hard to do if you're with a group of people you know. Later on, part of the challenge of shooting in a tournament is recovering from lapses in form, and shooting as well as you can even when you're tired, but that's probably not the best learning experience.

Thanks for all of the replies.
Yes it's only a 30 target shoot, but I'll be driving quite a distance so I'll probably be tempted to shoot all of them unless it really turns into a disaster.
