Title: Hitting right while canting
Post by: Tickbait on July 15, 2013, 08:29:00 AM
While practicing the other day, I noticed that I have been doing most of my shooting while holding the bow in a vertical position.  Thinking about hunting season coming up, I started canting my bow like I would from a tree stand.  When I started doing this, all my arrows began going right (I'm right handed).  What causes this and are there any good remedies?  Thanks, Eric.

Eric,

Are you shooting off the shelf or an elevated rest??

Hi Arne, I'm shooting off the shelf, not quite cut to center.  Thanks, Eric.

Then I suspect that you are canting the bow but your head isn't going with it and possibly your string hand is not too.  Your alignments need to stay relatively the same but if you are "laying the bow over" and nothing else, that could be the cause of your "right" errors.

As always need to see your "straight up" shot then your "canted" shot to suggest anything more.

Thanks, Arne.  Now that you mention this, I remember feeling like my string fingers were fighting the string to stay in alignment.  I'll give this a try later on.  Unfortunately I don't have a way to video myself right now.  Thanks!  Eric.

If you are tilting your head with the cant your bow and your eye is to the right of your arrow you will shoot to the right. You want your eye directly over the arrow.

Thanks guys for all your help.  I think I was failing to bend at the waist, causing me to be out of alignment.  Eric.
