Title: Drawing slowly

It seems when I over shoot I draw quickly and my shooting goes out the window but when I relax and draw my bow slow I shoot better why is that? Proper back tension?

You really have to find your own speed.  I've known archers who shoot best when drawing quickly, and others, myself included, who shoot best when drawing slowly.  Then there are others who draw REALLY slowly and shoot quite well.  I couldn't shoot well drawing that slowly anymore than I could drawing really quickly.

Thanks Dave maybe it helps more with focusing on the spot I wanna hit, would you say hitting clay targets at 40 yards is good? Not in air on my target

I like to draw relatively slow as that is what I do when hunting to avoid being detected. I especially finish my last 2-3 " of my draw so when I hit anchor I am ready to release.

I find that I have a more solid, repeatable anchor, when I draw slower. I also aim, after reaching anchor. Never could aim as I draw the bow. I envy those that can.

As I've been learning to shoot trad, I've learned that drawing slowly and taking my time is really best for me.  I thought that I could snap shoot at first but that thought has quickly gone out the window.

I think it's because drawing quickly blows your focus, when I slowed down, my shooting really came up! Been noticing everyone that snaps their string back, don't shoot as well, I'm sure there are a lot of exceptions to this, I just haven't seen them!

I think a fast draw encourages (for some, not all) a fast release.
By doing so, you aren't allowing a full anchor or engaging your rhomboids...it becomes a snap-shot and honestly, there aren't that many folks that can snap shoot well.

I shoot with a few people in their 70's and 80's who have been shooting for many years...they cannot even come close to reaching any sort of anchor point yet they manage to shoot rather well...there are no style points in trad archery
