Title: question about back tension (Arne?)
Post by: bear bowman on November 15, 2016, 01:57:00 PM
This is my second year of shooting/hunting trad. I've recently discovered (over the summer) that I wasn't using any back tension and I was collapsing horribly.
Since fixing this and making a few other tweaks in my form, I'm wondering where I should feel it in my back? I tend to feel it in the center of my back and upwards a bit to the bottom of my shoulder blade. Is this correct? It feels correct to me. It acts as almost like a clicker for me. I get my finger to my lip and I get that feel in my back and release.
I really hope this makes sense to you all.

For me, when I get to full draw and get the bones lined up, I feel an apparent reduction of bow weight (kind of like the let off on a C bow) AND I feel like my string side shoulder blade is leaning against a wall. BUT!! for me it is only on the string shoulder side, the bow shoulder side is set and static == no tension in the back on the bow shoulder side.

I get this in the draw by only using the string side shoulder and upper arm to draw.

You were able to explain it so much better than myself. Yes, I only have tension on the string side. I forgot to mention that.
Thank you for your response Arne.
