Hi guys. I have been trying to correct a release issue that i have and I cant find a solution. The issue is I use a deep hook and when I record myself is slow motion I notice my index finger at full draw points outard a little instead of staying deeply hooked. This causes a sloppy release for me sometimes. I notice if I keep my shouder down I can get better control but with a damaged rotator cuff its hard to do.o almost a 90.So for you coaches out there is it normal for my index finger to not stay deep hooked?Do i want my elbow level? wish I could post a video but i havent tackled how to do that yet. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

About 20 years ago I found that I was under pulling with my index finger and over pulling with my ring finger. I cannot hold my thumb down with my index finger like Schulz, but I do curl in the thumb and pinkie, more like Hill. Jerry Hill said that Howard told him that the ring finger is the trigger. This can all get overly complicated. What I had to do, was to go back to what John said, the bow hand rises slightly faster than the drawing hand. This get the pull inline with the power line and gives a bit of a flat draw that helps with the aiming. Some people get into a state where they are hauling the the string up hill. What does have to do with the drawing fingers? It keeps the shoulder and draw arm level. Instead of thinking about a deep hook feeling, try going for a feeling that your drawing fingers are an equally balanced block of fingers that are straight inline with wrist and arm which is in a horizontal straight line with the arrow at full draw. It is easy to find that balanced block, over pull with the index and then the ring finger, when they are equal you will feel it. Some say John has a soft release, he has a short reaction to a very hard release.

that's a great explanation as to what's going on I'm glad I'm not alone. Sounds like you understand completely. It makes a lot of sense when you say think of my fingers as a block of fingers on a straight inline. I feel like when I think to much about my release and my fingers it just makes it all worse lol. Thanks for the great advice.very well put

I to have become more aware of pressure on my release hand in relation to pressure on my ring finger and middle finger.Seems that my index finger kinda floats away from the string but when my conscious mind becomes aware I apply tension and the arrow goes high. I think that I think to much and should just pull through the shot.My groups are close but just want tighten up. I did go to a B50 string and it seems to roll off my fingers instead of popping like ff doses. (http:// [img]http://i.imgur.com/ufoMWa9.jpg) [/IMG]
