This is a great camp dessert and its easy!
We use a #10 dutch oven so you will have to adjust your ratios depending on the size of oven you have.
In the dutch oven add:
2-cans of peachs or cherries in "heavy syrup" to the oven first.
1- box of yellow cake mix
Sprinkle top with cinnamon
Place 5 pads of butter or margarine on top.
Place the oven in the coals of the fire, shoveling coals on top and banking them around the oven. Rotate the oven every 5-7 minutes to avoid hot spots while cooking. Baking time will vary depending on how hot the coals are. A very hot coal fire about 20-25 minutes, a cooler fire 35-45 minutes.
This is a great fireside treat, seldom any leftovers.

I wish I was there......right now. That even sounds like something I could bake!
May your arrow always hit the spot. May you always have peaches or cherries; thanks a lot! Mc/NC
I've been to Homestead! Before Andrew did...

Do you mix the cake mix up first or do you add it in powder form?

Oh man that sounds good. :bigsmyl:

The cherries or peaches are put in the bottom of the oven first. Simply layer the cake mix on top of the fruit, then sprinkle the cinnamon on top and add the butter or margarine pads. Thats it! The heat of baking blends and mixes everything automatically. Simple, easy, and real good!

I'm eating some right now as I type this. Good ol' "Dump Cake". That's what the Boy Scouts call it. If you are using charcoal briquets , use 15 on the bottom and 10 on the top. Takes about an hour. I put all the charcoal on top the last 10 minutes or so. Gets a nice crust that way.
Try applesauce, fruit cocktail, canned apples, and pineapple too.Cherries and chocolate cake mix works fine too if you are a choco fan.
