I am looking for a good rub for ribs and brisket, any good ones out there. Thanks Bergie

Penzey's Spices. They have all kinds of good rubs.

My pork rub(ribs and Butts) starts with brown sugar, salt and cayenne with a few other additions to spice it up. Work on your own and write down what you use. This way you can be consistant with the taste. For brisket I like to grind Coriander seeds into my home brew rubs - great for lamb chops as well. Pre-ground coriander doe not have the same taste so don't go with that.
Red Monkey makes some really good pre-made rubs. I like the Mango/habanero on briskets with great results.

Not as much brown sugar as you would use for a pork shoulder. Then to it add black pepper, cayenne pepper, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, chile powder, paprika, dried thyme, and dried oregano. I put the spices into a spice mill/coffee grinder that I just use for spices and hot peppers. I pulse it several times to get the spices very fine, then incorporate them into the brown sugar.
You can slather on a dijon mustard, worcestershire sauce, crushed beef bouillion cubes or powder before you put on the rub if you like.
To baste I melt 2 sticks of butter, then add 2 cups of beef broth and 2 cups of apple juice or cider.
When it reaches 165 I place it into a foil pan to continue the cooking. The pan catches all of those wonderful juices!!! Enjoy.

Here's a rub that you'll like:
1/2 teaspoon smoked sea salt (you'll need to look around for this; usually natural foods stores have it.)
1 teaspoon smoked peppercorns, fresh ground (another nifty discovery at the natural foods store.)
1 teaspoon chipotle powder
1 teaspoon ancho chile powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon cumin
If it doesn't yeild enough, then mix according to the same ratios to make more. This mix will boost the smoky flavor using the smoke salt, smoked black pepper, and the chipotle powder (which is a smoked jalapeno).

a simple basic one used for pork and chicken...1 cup of kocher salt, 1 cup black pepper and 1 cup of paprika

Penzey's has two powders I use as rubs pretty regular, too. The Adobo Seasoning is great for Southwestern and the Turkish Seasoning is out-friggin'-standing for steaks on the grill.
