Title: Electric Grill
Post by: Sheepshooter on January 25, 2011, 09:46:00 PM
Anyone on here ever own or use an electric BBQ? If so how did you like the results. We are looking for a new grill and I saw an electric at Costco. My wife is skeptical but the reviews on it were quite good. I'm just looking for more opinions.

One of the Guys I work with has one. Uses it daily ran off of a generator in the back of the truck.

It has held up very well. He's been using it for about 3 years. Only problem they had was didn't pay attention to the exaust and melted the cord in half.   :knothead:

Have had an electric grill for over 10 years and it's been great. Only had to replace a couple of items. Quick to use and no hassle with gas or charcoal.

I have an indoor electric grill/griddle, switchable plates.  It works well, browing and cooking.   I need to keep it under the vent though, as it smokes a lot.  Also has a drip tray underneath that you fill with water to catch the fat.  Just make sure to fill the drip tray before you start cooking, unlike my wife, who decided to do it halfway through and nearly burned the house down due to a flare up.  The grease aromatized and hit the element when she poured the water in it, and poof, instant fire.  She's not allowed to use it anymore.

Can you still get that good old charcoal flavor with an electric grill?

Is it an all electric grill, or a propane grill with an infrared grill added?  Some porpane grills now have an infrared area to sear the meat or an infrared back reflector for rotisserie cooking.  You do not get that good charcoal flavor from an electric grill.

The only time we use ours is when we are skiing at our condo in Whitefish, MT.  I've only used it in cold weather and has worked well but I always throw a few woodchips on it for a bit of flavor.  It is incredibly convenient but I don't know if I'd use it as my one and only...
