Title: Removing stickers from smoker body
Post by: EHK on March 23, 2011, 07:51:00 AM
I've been using a bullet/water smoker to do all of my BBQ up until now, and decided I wanted to try a Texas style smoker.  So, I went out last week and bought one from the local Lowes.  It came with a great big sticker on the main body, which of course won't come off cleanly.  Anyone know what I can use to remove it?  I have no problem with re-painting it if it gets scratched up.  Thanks!

Goof-Off will remove just about anything, including the finish.  So just be prepared to repaint with high-temp paint.  Did you try soaking it with a wet cloth and soap solution?  How about applying a heat gun and using a plastic putty knife to try to scrape it off.

Thanks for the suggestions Al Dente.  I'm going to give the heat gun a shot this weekend. I'll let you know how I make out.

WD-40 should take it right off.  It seems to be chemically close enough to act as a solvent on most sticker's glue.

Todd is on the mark. Then some windex for final cleaning.

Why bother? Doesn't affect the cooking and will eventually come off on its own. Also, helps to identify the brand if you have problems with it, or like it so much you would like to recommend it to a friend. If you just have to take it off, I find that WD-40 is always very helpful. As for cooking in your Texas style smoker, cook low and slow. Its a great way to cook, but you must master the art of heat regulation. Good luck and enjoy.

WD-40 is a good way to get it off. Soak it and let it stand about l5 minutes and it should come right off.
