Title: Sausage virgin.....
Post by: robtattoo on October 12, 2013, 05:56:00 PM
Can anyone recommend me a decent, pow priced sausage stuffer?
I've never made meat-in-tube-form before & this year I really want to give it a try. Mostly links, but possibly some summer sausage too.
Venison, pork, alligator & bear, if it makes any difference.

If you have a kitchen aid mixer, get the adapter for sausage.  Other than that I would recommend going to a restuarant supply store and buying a used sausage stuffer.

I have a Weston, I have no complaints with it.  I also have the kitchen aid kit and there is no comparison that the designated stuffer makes the job much easier.

I do agree on the kitchen aid but if you are looking to make normal consumption of sausage they work fine.  I am lucky in that I sell restaurant equipment for a living and get to see the best and worst of all of the sausage stuffers out there.  For the same price as you pay for the Weston you can buy an commercial grade stuffer at a restaurant supply store, these are typically made much better than a weston

Completely off topic, but how many restaurants are using sausuage stuffers?  Wouldn't think that would be a common item for a restaurant supply store.  Can't imagine many places making their own.  I'm not doubting you at all, just curious.

There ain't a whole lot to a sausage stuffer, can't imagine anything wearing out in my lifetime on the Weston.  Be happy to send you my kitchen aid kit if you've got all the other parts and would like to give it a go.

I have the grinder from Northern Tool that cost 119.00 it comes with the sausage stuffing tubes.  I have had the grinder for 6 years now and have made probably 800lbs of sausage with it.  Works good for me and my little family.
